I mean he’s in his late 70’s... still sounds pretty damn good if you ask me! Definitely one of the greatest vocalist ever!

The man just loves to play live. He doesn't need the money and his voice is obviously long gone but he still gets out there 30 or so times a year to please his die hards, which is admirable. At least its really him. Most of these new bands today have so many backing tracks when they play live its really not even live. Its acting. I'm making my first trip to see him in Mobile this April.

I saw him back in the 80s when I was in high school. So of course I wanted to be a part of his farewell tour. (Note he was sick this performance.) He's a legend in our time.

You know, I have seen a small handful of his "fans" complain about how bad he sounded at a couple concerts around this same time, but like the OP said down in the comments, he had been sick. So he's just having an off day. That happens when you're 76. Most guys his age would just be wasting away in a nursing home somewhere ya know? That would be too horrible of a fate for a legend like Ronnie. This is what he loves. Most guys his age don't even remember their own name, but he remembers the lyrics to his songs. To be honest, this made me love him even more. What I love so much about it, is the fact that he's not relying on an autotuner or lip synching to a pre-recorded CD like just about all performers do these days. And what many people need to take into consideration is that a raw live performance is never going to sound as good as a studio track, since studio tracks always get edited and cleaned up quite a bit. Live performances can be distorted sometimes by sound equipment etc. (I did a little bit of acoustics engineering work as a radio personality. Sometimes on a live-remote broadcast, the equipment sucked so bad, my voice sounded like someone took a branding iron to my vocal chords and I did not sound like me.) Back in the 80s and early 90s that was part of the job, not like today where they plug their cell phones into a transmitter and pull up a Spotify playlist of things from the station's genre and call it a day.) Some of his live shows posted on here from five, ten years ago sound slightly "off" too as far as live concert footage goes, but when you see live on TV they sound more like you'd expect from a studio cut and you can thank a sound engineer for that. Acoustic equipment in a saloon (where he was playing here) is always going to sound worse than acoustic equipment belonging to a TV studio. I have seen footage of Ronnie a few months after this, as well as seen reviews of shows done shortly after as well and everyone talked about how he's "still got it". He sounded great and like he always does on those more recent shows. He just put out another album, and he sounds great on it. (Which should tell you his voice is NOT gone, it just wasn't 100% for this particular performance.) And I saw footage of him rehearsing with some of those people on his newest album and he sounded amazing there too. Those too were between this and now. So despite him being sick, at least there he is! That illustrates that he has more class in his little finger than a lot of performers. At the beginning of this video Ronnie was throwing some shade at George Jones who was so famous for bailing out on concerts, he earned the nickname "No Show Jones". Willie Nelson is also a legend who has a habit of not even showing up to shows half the time but here, Ronnie's not feeling good and still putting 110% of his heart into it. Tomorrow night he is giving a TWO HOUR performance at a local casino. I am going...it's a bucket list thing for me. I've been wanting to see him in concert for years, but he either never came close enough for friends and family to want to drive me there, (I am a non driver) and when he did come a reasonable distance away I didn't have the funds to get it done. Now I am going to get to, and it doesn't matter if his voice wavers or cracks. It doesn't matter if it's just him and his piano and he doesn't climb on it or get up and move around on the stage like he normally does. It only matters that Ronnie Milsap is in the room know what I mean? I think I will climb down off of my soap box now. That's just my .02, and nobody has to agree with me.

Thank you for your comment. That's how I feel he did an amazing job. I sat front row center that night. Most would have cancelled he was sick. He didnt do a meet and greet. He was my first concert in Beaumont Tx. The Palace. I wanna to be a part of his farewell Tour.

@@giggliegurl40 You are very welcome. I have never seen him play live before but have loved him for years. I'm still in shock that I am going to get to tomorrow night! (I hope he does do a meet and greet.) I'm in one of those geographical areas where there is not a lot of venues to attract performers but I am between Tulsa, Branson, and Kansas City. So usually all the bigger names just go there. I wanted to see him in Branson in September but it just did not pan out and to my knowledge he's not ever played in Tulsa. Ever since Tulsa built the BOK Center, they don't bother to book any older established artists, they'd rather fill the arena with guys like Justin Bieber or rock bands. Rarely country bands. So I am glad that a local casino decided to get him! The man is a jewel. The tickets I have for tomorrow's show are a mother's day present from my 19 year old son who is going with me and is not even into music! He doesn't know anything about Ronnie other than that "momma loves him and has been wanting to see him in concert." It will be HIS first concert ever. He will probably be the youngest person there lol.

This man is so talented that even at half ability he'd be better than most singers. His live version of Kaw Liga still gives me chills even though I've heard it thousands of times.

Montage? I think it's called a medley. But I digress... I LOVE me some Ronnie Milsap, but it's concerts like this that reaffirm my belief that it's not beneficial to go see aged entertainers (singers/dancers/etc.), for they RARELY have the strength, power, flexibility, breath, endurance, energy, (I could go on), to put on a proper performance. Seeing them in this fashion only leads to disillusionment...and sometimes disappointment (have any of you seen Willie Nelson in concert in the last 15 years?). Just let their recordings and archival video footage speak for their incredible talents and legacies, for those are enough for me.

Michael Morris well said. I’m going to see Ronnie in October because I love him. But he’s getting old, dammit.

Oh...there are still a few out there who can still "git after it" pretty good, but....bless their hearts....most have a tough time just getting through their show. Yes, I know....I'll be right there with them one day.
