This song makes me emotional, everytime I hear it. If you have dealt with any kind of addiction or someone who suffered with addiction, will understand.

So many people, if they even know of Gil, think of him as an angry man protesting the status quo, but he had such a wonderful rich voice.
@juanitajordan-joyner468 жыл бұрын
+Bruce Righter He spoke the truth, something the status quo prefers to bury and label those who speak it "angry".

Juanita Jordan When Bernie Sanders was on the Stephen Colbert show recently, he referenced Gil, saying "This time, the revolution WILL be televised!" The line might have come from the mind of one of the writers, but it may well have been Bernie's. Bernie would have been 29 at the time of "Revolution" release.

You are right! And also a very sensitive and generous side. Plus he was quite humorous. I was reading his memoir and it’s very insightful, poignant yet presented in a humorous way. Actually he seemed to be a kind and gentle genius,

Drug addled and worn out looking and his gift still managed and continues to manage to capture the audience. Mesmerizing.

I think this piece sums up the genius, talent, tragedy, beauty and lovely hard good times that he experienced through years of socially conscious expression and art that imitated life; a life that was on the edge too often, but if he was not on the edge, he wouldn't have been what we needed him to be!

A Classic Gem from GSH! While many know about his great social/political songs, those of us who are of the 'listening to the WHOLE album' crowd, know that his beautiful/unique "love songs" show him as the COMPLETE ARTIST he was/remains. in addition to this one, some other personal favs are: Everyday/Save The Children/The Middle Of Your Day/Song For Bobby Smith/95 South/Morning Thoughts/Give Her A Call/Sharing/Alluswe/I'll Take Care Of You/A Toast To The People/Your Daddy Loves You/Combinations..

I always felt that this song was the flip side of his more political work. In other words, there's a struggle, but this song shows what the struggle is for: the right to live life well, to not have anyone stop you from enjoying the simple things of life, because they matter. Rest in peace, thanks for everything you gave us. Sorry you didn't have an easier time.

@kimouts No Gill was never a Druggie .... He has always tried to help his people to understand that we are the subject of the Enemy. The industry has made it difficult for people (artist) to spread the good news, it would rather employ those whom claim to be artist to lead us into temptation that will Destroy our Souls. Don't get me wrong, Gill will always be a ray of HOPE in the darkness of the of the wilderness. Whatever the case, a new day is dawning and the True Light will be seen. GOD IS!
