Mr. Sonny James fka DJ Statik is a Philadelphia native now living in Los Angeles, CA. A full-time DJ, producer, videographer, and on screen personality, Sonny is a co-founder of acclaimed DJ/Production crew, Illvibe Collective. Sonny has worked as the official tour DJ for legendary MCs such as Bahamadia, J-Live, Mr. Lif, Hezekiah and other prominent international hip-hop artists. He was on a short list of DJs who have been personally invited to the White House to DJ during President Obama’s second term. He has played several events for the Democratic National Party including events for Hilary Clinton and Susan Rice. Sonny has earned respect as a producer with his contributions to Illvibe Collective’s debut album, All Together Now, and on several of his own remixes and original productions.
Sonny holds a management role on the Artists Relations / Marketing team in Los Angeles for the Award winning DJ Software company, Serato.

Drawing upon the rich musical heritage of his Philadelphia upbringing and a cultivated influence from the numerous DJ pioneers that Philly birthed into the culture, it’s no surprise that the self taught DJ Excel, who began his journey at age 11, has been a dance floor powerhouse in nightclubs around the world for 20 years.
Now based out of Los Angeles, Excel‘s rich stock has kept him in high demand amongst tastemakers and corporate clients like Nike, Google, Cisco, KZbin, HBO and Playboy, in addition to regular appearances spanning every nightlife market between the coasts, including residencies in Las Vegas, Miami, New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Iowa City and Atlantic City. In his downtime, he produces with Baltimore’s DJ Impulse under the moniker ALFA PAARE.
With 6 EP releases and numerous remixes for artists like, Dev, Yuna, Leon Bridges, & Silk City under their belt, they quickly have earned themselves regular placement in some of the most respected DJ sets around the Globe.
Analog Archive is a series that began in 2024 as an opportunity for Sonny & Excel to rediscover many of the records that had been sitting in storage for nearly a decade. After having the vinyl shipped from Philadelphia to Los Angeles, the two decided it was time to start a series where they have fun with the music again.

Thank you so much for your mini feature on one of my favourite people, Gil Scott Heron. I first started listening to him and The Last Poets when I lived in Jamaica. ( around 1970). I spoke to him many times at the Bottom Line and SOBs were he occasionally played. I always checked out his shows(although sometimes he was a few hours late) in New York. I was also familiar with a few members in his band like Robert Gordon and Larry McDonald(also from Jamaica, and who played on 5 of my records.) I miss his clarity ,candor, and sense of humor . He was one of the cornerstones of American music, and I hope he'll someday be recognised as such.(I have most of his albums.) R.I.P. Gil Scott Heron

Yo dude that was a serious history lesson you just put down! I thought I knew a lot about Gil Scott Heron, but obviously not enough. I once worked with the Lost Boyz back in '99 when they blocked out the studio I was working @ during that time "New Horizons Recording Studios" I met a cat named Mel that I got along with very well, but I had no idea Cheeks was Gil Scott Heron's nephew!

Had the album, Small Talk at 125th and Lenox, which, of course, the original version of "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised", recorded with just conga drums, percussion, and voice, not the version with Bernard Purdue. No disrespect intended.
