Gilbert was way too funny and way too uncontrollable to be on that show. Howard is a control freak and needs people to do what he wants when he wants how he wants. If you tell Gilbert to do something, he'll almost instantly do the opposite. Lol. Its why he was amazing. But he could never be on the show, Howard needs a good #2 and Gilbert isn't #2 to anyone.

This broadcast is, what, 1994 or so? By then Stern had the largest radio audiences in most major markets including New York and LA. He was still entering markets too. I don’t know how “influence” is calculated but when you are reaching millions of listeners daily (long before any kind of social media), I guess it’s reasonable to think Stern had some pull.
