Is there an update to this story? It's really sad how many young troops are unprepared for this part of life in the military. I did one overseas tour to SE Asia in the early 80s. It was 3 uncles who served in different eras from WWII, Korean and Vietnam who educated me. The oldest was the only one to serve in 2 Wars and his story was about leaving 2 children behind. He knew of the 1st but received notification of the 2nd yrs after returning home. He was never able to have a real relationship with either partly because during his era after the War you were pretty much on your own with no support and many suffered from PTSD that went untreated.

I was wondering how was the baby boy that my mom babysitting in Olongapo back in 80’s. Alam ko anak sya ng black and mom niya bar girl sa Gapo. And un mom ko mabait kinupkop niya but after certain months bumalik un nanay kinuha ng wala pasabi. Asan na kaya un? I am 41 now but the boy is younger than me. He is probably 35 now or early 30’s. My husband is from Olongapo was delivered to an orphanage at a year... He was adopted by American Italian's and grew up in US... His biological mother branded him with cigarettes... I guess so she would recognize him, if he ever came back to Olongapo... He did go back, but it was a year too late his mother died of cancer... Bautista was his last name...
