It made me cry when seeing how excited your father was when he met you at the airport, hugged you both, kissed his beloved sons wholeheartedly . Really. Why did it take too long for both of you to meet your father. So sad. Love from Jakarta, Indonesia. Happy to see you gather at last.

Listening to “How Great Thou Art” in the car had me emotional. Just that alone was a blessing to hear, let alone the unity of biological father and sons.

My Mom and dad divorced when I was 1 and I grew up with her second husband thinking it was my dad. At 9 he adopted me and when I was 20 he committed suicide and my mom disappeared. At 21 I saw the first picture of my biological dad and at 27 I met my biological dad for the first time since him and my mom separated. I had mixed feelings after. I realized through meeting him that the dad who raised me and was now dead is who I really had the father son bond with and that nobody could ever fill that spot or become that besides him. Which made me regret how I acted towards him my whole life. And secondly I partially wished I didn’t hunt down my biological dad because it was awkward. Awkward on Father’s Day because I didn’t see him as my father or feel a father son bond so giving a Father’s Day card felt so awkward and untrue. And then I had to start showing up to a whole bunch of family events where I really don’t feel at home or comfortable. And then it’s awkward to say my new last name in front of him or hear him ask if I’ll change my name before marriage since I’m the last one that could extend this name he has. Anyways now I’m just trying to be nice and live to where I don’t feel bad after he does. But truly the dad that raises you is your father and no one can take that from him

I can relate to your story. I was raised by my Aunt and Grandmother. My Father and my Mother were mostly absent therefore I didn’t form a connection with them either. My Aunt and Grandmother where the only people in my life, the countless meals prepared and daily interactions created a bond and family for me. My real biological Mother and Father I don’t really have a bond with them. I know her as the woman who was married to my Father who is now deceased. It’s all facts very little feeling. I didn’t cry when my Father passed. However when my Grandmother passed I felt such deep sadness and felt broken. Nothing for my Dad. This told me that there is no bond and too late to create one.

I'm 70 yrs old no time to look for my Dad, it's ok for me I've survived the longing, I am now happy with my wife and two grown kids finish thier college education at Holy Angel University got three grandson and two granddaughter, God is strength and He alone protect and love me so much that is why I'm here living with my wonderful family. I thank first and second to my long lost father, without Him I won't be in this world no regret no heartache no grudges in my hearth.

Wow. What an incredible story. I'll bet your a great dad and grandpa. My mom was 60 when I found her birth family. Her brother had been searching for her that entire time. When it happened it was such a God thing. Turns out her life would have been so much harder with sorrow and heartbreak because her dad was a sick, sick man. She is an amazing mom, best friend, and grandma. She is made out of love and kindness. I'm sure you are too. Letting go of the pain and anger is so important. Maybe your life is good because your father wasn't in it. Thank you for sharing your story.

This is really heart touching. I saw this months or maybe years ago.. I cried when I saw this as I recently lost my father( from Covid), and we didn’t see him because of the travel restrictions to the Philippines, so my siblings ( they’re also in the States) asked somebody to have him cremated- very, very painful. Losing a parent is one of the most painful experience. Enjoy the opportunity of meeting and knowing your father. Good luck.

That moment only my tears break my heart because my plan for my dad broke on his death. The flight stewards came with me and comfort me that time. As a Filipino who was born and raised in rhe Philippines and emigrated to the US and lived there for over 20 years i can assure you that you were better off being raised in the loving and caring Filipino family culture. It shows in the way you smile and act and how you conduct yourselves. You'd seldom see this in american kids, not even those raised by Filipinos

That’s your personal opinion. And you haven’t grown up here as a child so you really can’t speak to the experience. There are plenty of children who suffer while growing up in the Philippines, it is not simply a cultural difference, it’s a parent problem.
