1974 would prove to Gilbert OSullivan last year of massive chartsuccess. Although he would another hit in 1975 he had to wait until 1980 for another smash. This is a great song from a pop genius!

For some reason they obviously cant get the wrights to it, which is why its not on any of the music xmas channels its tragic , great song .

I'm pretty sure this was scripted. Either way, it's a brilliant dialogue between Gilbert and Les. Christmas Song is one of THE finest Christmas Pop songs ever written and just as great as Elton John's Step Into Christmas released a year earlier in 1973. Gilbert OSullivans Christmas Song was a UK number 12 hit single in late 1974.

Of course it was scripted - but that doesn't matter. Much as I am a big fan of Elton John, _Step into Christmas_ isn't one I like. I think this song is superb, and timeless.

@@sarac.3259 Oh, Gilbert OSullivan is my favourite artist and Christmas Song is a timeless gem! I kinda like Eltons Johns Step Into Christmas, especially the fine harmonies at the end.
