Gilbert is a beautiful Weimaraner who has been coming to the farm for quite some time. He has a calm and peaceful nature... but don’t let down your guard if you’re wearing a hat... and your name is Luke. Really, he just wants to play and getting Luke to chase him is his favorite game in the world. So like the intelligent Weimaraner he is, he found new and creative ways to ensure he gets his way.
Weimaraner’s are large dogs that were originally bred for hunting in the 19th century. The Weimaraner possesses traits such as speed, stamina, great sense of smell, great eyes, courage, and intelligence. The breed is sometimes referred to as the "grey ghost" of the dog world originating from its ghostly coat and eye color along with its stealthy hunting style... and in this case, stealthy hat thievery. Gillie, Uncle Luke and the hat has made me laugh many a day. I remember when Auntie Sam was wearing Uncle Luke's hat and he took it off her head and pranced around with it. After that first time taking Uncle Luke’s hat off Auntie Sam’s head, Gilbert realised Auntie Sam was also fair game in his steal-the-hat game. So, now Auntie Sam’s hats are not safe either.

Weimaraners are such beautiful dogs - I do find that often when they’re used in advertising/photography they are portrayed as elegant, graceful, even aloof - but then I see Gilbert and Gus being total goofballs and clowning around and think there’s a lot of personality and love of fun as well as looks in this breed!

I adore Gilbert, he brings back memories of my dog who also had a playfulness that was so adorable. He even had that same sweet way of talking to people. Every time he walked into a room or a building he would announce himself to everyone. I miss him so much. 😔 When I saw Gilbert grab Sam’s hat it was a whole new game, now he’s always going to be on high alert to see who is going to drop their guard so he can snatch it.
