If a job takes you away from home, every minute away from home is because of your job and should be compensated. Here's an idea, compensate drivers at the prevailing rate when On Duty or Driving then also pay drivers the federal minimum wage for all other time they are away from home because of work.

@pacman49372 жыл бұрын
Exactly. I say this to truckers and they get defensive, and deflect by saying it’s a lifestyle choice and about not being stuck in an office. If you worked any job and did 60 hours you’d made $70,000 also because of overtime and time and a half.
@pacman49372 жыл бұрын
@A.Gavency13 You also have truck drivers that make less than 40k. Do you know what the actual average and median salary is for a truck driver is? It’s not a lot. You can look that up yourself. Now as far as non-trucker income, it would depend on a few factors like your location, skill set and education level. It sounds like you were describing dollar stores. Check this out. Most truckers are going to work 60-70 hours a week. If hourly, the most they’ll usually see a hour is $20-25 a hour. If CPM, that’s even worse since you can only drive but so many miles a week with the max usually being 2000-2500 on a regular basis. Let’s use your numbers though. Let’s say you make $15/hr and work 70 hours. That’s over $1200 a week and $60,000 due to time and a half. Any questions?
@pacman49372 жыл бұрын
@A.Gavency13 You must not be a trucker. You do realize that truck drivers only make a lot of money because they work a lot of hours? That was the point of my original post. If you work local, you’ll get paid by the hour. Let’s say a company like Sysco. They’ll pay you $26 a hour (varies by location but it’ll be less than $26). Do you know how hourly pay works? You take the hourly pay and double it. That tells you how much it is for a year if you work 40 hours a week for 50 weeks. Guess what? Your grand total is $52,000 a year. So how do Sysco drivers make $80k, $100k? Because they work 12-14 hour shifts for 5/6 days a week and clock in 70 hours a week. Understand? If it wasn’t for the 30 hours of overtime, that same driver would only make $1000 a week before taxes. Still following? Now if you don’t do local you’re going to be paid by the mile. The problem with this is it’s mathematically impossible to get more than 2000-2500 miles a week REGULARLY. Legally can only drive 11 hours a day, time spent at shipper, time spent at receiver, time spent chasing trailers, blah blah. Long story short, if you do 3000 miles a week, you’re probably going to get paid between $1200-1800 a week. You know how many hours you spent working to get it? 70 hours. So again, back to my original point. You can make $70k or more at almost ANY job if you worked that many hours.

wait.....i'm not truck driver, but everything I've been researching so far says almost or most of everyone drives 10 or 11 hours per day. how often do companies force people to drive 11 hours per day?

I'm debating being an owner operator this year. I'd like to know what you're offering? I consistently average 2500+ as a company driver but want to make more and maybe start my own company in the next few years, I mean b4 all the Tesla trucks take over of coarse.

@Gill222 жыл бұрын
Many companies will find a LOT of value in that and in return you’ll make a LOT of money. I don’t know how sustainable that will be if you can maintain that work rate for a few years, you’ll be very very well off!

Truck drivers with families are losing at the game of life. Driving trucks is a single man's game. No money is worth your family time. I drive trucks here in Florida but I am home everyday, I also make 100,000+ a year. I drive a roll-off truck. I possess a cdl A.
@adamloveshondas31228 ай бұрын
Thing is trucking is a lifestyle 😂most people get in it for the wrong reason it’s not a normal 9 to 5 job and go home if you have home bills plus family living in a truck it’s kinda ridiculous concept but if you living on the road with no home bills now your in a gypsy lifestyle then it makes Logical sense now you making good pay plus living a com acomadations😂 plus traveling the whole county basically for free no other job does that 🧐

Obviously you have a great deal of information. But from where I’m standing as an owner operator. You are part of the problem and not an answer to the solution. The only thing you’re doing is driving the price down for a highly skilled job. I and I might add very very costly for owner operators.
