Gillam Your Northern Home (1989)

This was made by Manitoba Hydro in 1989, and I ended up with a copy of this tape near that time, like many others who went/were up there or were considering it. There are a couple other KZbin videos posted about the town that are more current, but gives great context and detail of what Gillam was like then. In fact, it's probably one of the first videos made of a commercial type about the town, at a time when the video cassette was in it's prime as a technology.
Interesting to see the equipment, vehicles, housing, technology, styles, etc etc etc, of that era, but also some great people. Gillam was primarily a Hydro town, but there were many others who were not employed by Hydro that made the town what it was.
It's been 20 years or so since I've been back, so I have no idea what's changed as such. In any event, it was a progressive little place in it's day compared to a lot of other communities in the Province, and not a bad place to live. I wouldn't be surprised if it was still that way today.

Thank you for posting. I was born in Gilliam in 1971 and haven't been back since 1981! It has been 31 years sinced I visited Gilliam

I spent quite a bit of time in Gillam over the years. We lived in Sundance from '88 to '92. A few familiar faces in this.

i drove my semi truck for a delivery in Gillam...wooow...gravel road hundreds miles...wild..not very nice views like in rockies...i will NEVER but NEVER move in a place like Gillam...who live overthere is doing for money or is crazy..
