I have recently read that Gillan suffered the same problema as Ritchie with Rainbow. Band members wanted more money.

@@FrostedSeagull The Gillan band members wrote a lot of the music, especially Colin Towns, so I don't blame them!
@FrostedSeagull5 жыл бұрын
@@portcullis5622 I agree with you. Ian Gillan said that they either couldn't or wouldn't understand that a No.3 charting on the UK charts only does not mean millions of dollars flow in instantly. Colin Downs allegedly wanted an absolutely outrageous amount like £5,000 per week ! Ultimate irony, Blackmore in late '79 told him about the problems he had with Dio. Dio wanted massive royalties and residuals, wanted to be interviewed by the reputable rags as he was lead singer and wanted his picture on every article on Rainbow and receive residuals for these interviews. NOTE - Blackmore had DIO on an iron clad contract. Only recently have I discovered that Ritchie was good friends with Sharon Osbourne and her thug, albeit rich father at that time.

Best thing about (the band) Gillan, as opposed to Blackmore's Rainbow, is that they didn't try to bust into the American market. True artists play, write or paint what they want and not what they feel others want to see or hear. As a result the Gillan band always rocked with force while Rainbow, although often brilliant, became watered down and poppy. Didn't matter if Rainbow was playing arenas while Gillan was playing college venues. Integrity survives, conformity gets lost.

My favourite song of the unrecognized masterpiece that is Glory Road. Hard rock without being moronic " heavy metal." I love Blackmore and Rainbow when Dio sang. Glory Road in my opinion just ahead of Down to Earth and way, way better than any album by Joe Lynn Turner.
