Gillespie Field Gear-Up Landing

One of American Aviation's 172-RG's, N5167R, had a landing gear malfunction on Sunday, 12/28/14. The pilot made several low passes over the runway, and eventually made a fairly textbook gear-up landing on 27-Right. In keeping with the 'Exit' portion of the Emergency procedures, the pilot & instructor also exited and moved away from the airplane immediately upon landing.

We were at the airport taking care of stuff in our hangar but noticing a crowd had gathered along 27L. The pilot in the family was sorry he missed it; other non-pilot family members were horrified that a crowd had gathered to witness what might have been a disaster. All were glad to see the aircraft bellied safely.

Hate to be the MMQB but RGs come equipped with an emergency gear extension. Any news on if that failed also? Nevertheless great landing by the pilot and glad to see the best possible outcome!
