@ZlatniPlast yes he took a lucky set and lost so badly that then he said "today I was outplayed by Sinner", go check yourself. And this was this year, you can imagine that he'll do even worse in 2025 with one more year. I foresee him losing before reaching QF, so this time he'll avoid the humiliation to be beaten again by Sinner, who will win again the AO by the way

I’m surprised, but not fully shocked. Djokovic and Andy have known each other and have been friends, since they were 10/11, playing junior tournaments and traveling the world together. Their families are friends. Judy Murray has admitted to privately congratulating Djokovic multiple times( and has even done so publically on Twitter), even after he would beat Andy, and she has said over and over again, that she knows him well and is fond of him. When Nole won his 24th, she put up a “GOAT” status on Twitter, and then again after the Olympics. Djokovic has said of the Big 4, he is friends with Andy, and he has known him the longest. They practiced the most together. They had podcasts together during Covid. At this point in Djokovic’s career, he isn’t looking for someone to help him change his technique, he is looking for analysis, stats, scouting and briefings, and multiple players, including Novak himself, and analysts, have said that Murray has one of the greatest tennis analytical minds, even better than his tennis on court. From that perspective, and the fact that the two get along, it isn’t surprising. Plus, this is a great way for Murray to dip his feet in the coaching pool. Even if his commitment with Djokovic will extend beyond the AO, Nole played only something like 10 tournaments this year. This gives Murray a chance to earn some great money, while still getting time to spend with his family, unlike if he were to coach a younger player who would be playing nearly all year. Since the likes of Draper and Raducanu are still in their 20s, he has time after Djokovic to coach them as well. I’m so pumped for the AO now. I can’t imagine Muttering Murray will be able to be calm, even as a coach😂 And between his English swears and Nole’s Serbian swearing, it sounds like a riot. Bring it on!

Ha ha ha. You couldn’t have analyzed this plan any better. No better person to add value and motivate Djokovic than one of the great 4 himself. Andy has seen it all and has been in some of the greatest tennis battles in the highest of places the world has ever seen so he knows how to win when the odds are unfavorable. Combining their winning strategies and experience the Novak/ Andy team is very bad news to Sinner,Alcaraz and all the other top contenders. Very exciting to see😂

@joyrichards1419Күн бұрын
All excellent points, Gill. Retiring from any career is not easy, but more complicated with the game of tennis, from what we see. Roger did it fast because his knees were giving out, it's taking Rafa quite a while, Stan is still playing, as is Monfils and Gasquet. For these Big Two, it's very hard. They want to be part of everything it means to be on the tour. It's been their life since they were kids. Let's go and keep having some fun, they're thinking. They certainly don't need the money, but how else to fill the next 30 or so years? IMO, it won't last more than a year because of their huge personalities. And it may be just to play at the Slams. I thought the timing of the announcement was interesting too. Right when the last tennis of the year is being played at the Davis Cup.

Man, I love this though. A bit of solidarity between the big four as Novak rides into the sunset
@DustinKenney-b5k19 сағат бұрын
This is such a deep unpack. Part of this is I feel like Novak needs to get juiced up and sometimes he needs it by making bombastic decisions for attention. Another aspect of this is drawing a line of demarcation in the big 4. Roger and Rafa have become pretty insular in their friendship. Maybe Novak and Andy want to also curate something like that. It also helps that Andy and Novak are both lightning rods on the court. Andy knows Novak’s game, but as important, he’s played against the young guns that are now Novak’s rivals. Novak has proven once again that he’s humble enough to consistently be a student of the game. Further, I think this is also a chance for Andy to kind of live vicariously through Novak. If these new young guns came in when Andy’s body still held up, he would have been right there with the Sinners and Alcaraz’s of the tour. Novak has largely held up and absolutely has opportunities at least through 2025. Plus, I think Novak knowing that more likely than not, this could be his last season, he just wants to have fun. This will be a combustible partnership. I see lots of yelling and lots of laughs. It’s mutually beneficial and men’s tennis is better for it.

Murray demonstrated pathological-like difficulties in stopping playing tennis ( AEB: him verbalizing his difficulties to stop playing in a few interviews). I interpret this news as an opportunity that Djokovic offered to Murray to stay on the tennis tour. As a Rafa fan, I know I am biased, but couldn't the Djokovic wait at least a week for us to keep the focus on Rafa's retirement and what an amazing champion he's been for the sport,, especially in light of how modest that celebration was in Malaga? Sheesh...
