This was very funny, but I think it's really easy to overplay the midjourney gimmick. AI is insanely over-hyped in the marketing and IT worlds at the moment. At a certain point, continuing to ride the AI bandwagon is just hyping up a bunch of shitty products and broken promises.

@@falseprofit9801 I would agree but not accepting especially powerful tech that changes dramatically every 3 months is a lot like saying "I dont need an iphone" when they had smartphones doing the exact same thing for 10 years. its hard to keep ignoring. Your reply for instance helps the algorithm and we are disagreeing this talking about it more. I find it hard to hate on or ignore. in fact laughing at it is prob our best option, if not now when, post singularity? That last sentence is a jump but I think conversation is the healthiest option.

@@thebritons I’m not really worried any the singularity anymore at this point, ever since I expanded my AGI Safety diet to include a larger range of perspectives. Is it possible that superintelligent AI will happen in our lifetimes and change reality beyond our comprehension? Of course. Is it likely? Abosfuckinglutely not, it’s about as likely as the nations of the world being destroyed in nuclear hellfire - it sits in that uncomfortable possibility space of incredibly unlikely things. As of 8-10 years ago, the scientific push for developing “true AI” has largely fizzled out, just because it’s much much easier to create elaborate robo-tools for taking human labor and repackaging it for the end consumer to tell them “a computer made that”. Most of the tool is a lie, a scam even. And not just the AIart engines, there’s also the new “AI” menus that fast food places are rolling out; said ordering systems are really just a microphone and a human in a sweatshop, the machine just doesn’t tell you you’re on a skype call with the Philippines to somebody making $1/hr can type what you’re saying and text it to the people making your food. As of right now, outside of a tiny number of exceptions like Drone Swarms at darpa, anything the media reports as “AI” is just a human behind a thin curtain who was *not* appropriately compensated for their work. Footnote: The use of neural networks and machine learning in social media algorithms I think illustrates my point: social media companies don’t market their feed as AI because the public associates the buzzword “AI” with ChatGPT, midjourney, and other scams that lie about their creative problem-solving abilities, an intractable problem in AI research that hasn’t been solved and might never be solved. It’s trivially easy to ask ChatGPT or midjourney to do a task where there’s insufficient references to copy from, and since current-gen AI can’t produce anything new through deduction, the algorithm will just present you with garbage while confidently ‘lying’ about what it’s done (in ChatGPT’s case).
