Ha dta' reply to this one as I'd noticed the same thing re:David's improvisations....impossible but beautiful the way things "worked out." But you know that when Gillian puts her head down and starts some serious strumming you're gonna hear some magic from these two! It just works out that way!

"People would flat-out ask me, 'Don't you have any happy love songs?' Well, as a matter of fact, I don't. I've got songs about orphans and morphine addicts.".......and that, folks, is one of many reasons why she's such a brilliant beautiful artist. Bravo!

I agree . Someone asked my father one time why do you write so many sad songs? , and he said because those are the songs people want to hear . Gillian knows her music , that is for sure . She is a pure talent .

I'd say that in her songs, Gillian taps into certain eternal verities concerning the human condition, such as when, for instance, Miss Ohio laments: "Yeah, I wanna do right/but not right now." I mean, what can I say, Ms. Welch knows her St. Augustine.

I shudder to think what he could do on a guitar with a cutout. I once made a cutout in a cheap guitar when I was learning. I seem to recall Leo Kotke doing that with a '70's era Yamaha before cutout models were easily available. There were many copies of early Gibson arch top guitars. In the '70s you could buy some used Gibson arch tops for a few hundred bucks. They hail from the jazz combo and big band era before Les Paul got everybody wired.

I just don't understand the Newport crowds. Is there a policy against clapping for the bands? Can you not whoop and hoot when you hear the first notes from that song that you absolutely love!? Did I miss something? I mean, no, I don't have the money for Newport, but the sets are on average really great, and there's usually just a little smattering of applause at the end of a song. Simpletons...Gil's like, "can you hear us OK?" As in - we're up here rockin' it and you're all on your phones or too afraid to not be "cool."

Gillian and Dave cover The Band often, one of my favorites is Long Black Veil...I thought Rick Danko owned the song until I saw G&D do it live, they really were awesome, so now the song is co-owned!
