When I was a kid I always wanted to open the Emergency Release to open the doors outward.

Its hard for the kid to reach the emergency release on top but the door switch on front is easy for the kids to reach, the Crown bus has emergency release right on the middle of the door so the kids can reach it.

if you are about to exit and at the top step, anyone can reach it. You wouldn't be on the bottom step trying to pull the lever and it's a lot easier than the Crowns.
