Byron rally , scalextric, slot car track layout

This is 17ft in length and 8ft wide dropping to 5ft for 13ft in length.
Loosely based around Southern France/Italy.
Winding roads which then crash into a disused quarry.

Somebody needs to put a GoPro (or smaller if the resolution is good enough) to one of these and do these layouts. There are some fantastic layouts (like this one) that should be seen from 'car level'...

Exceptional lay out. The only thing wrong with slot cars is the ridiculous speed. It makes it so unrealistic. If the speed was to scale and the tracks made slippery it would then be great to see or control. 🐨 🦘

Very good job!! Only few questions: do you use cars with magnet? how much wide is the slot in the home made part of the track? What do you use to cover the surface on the track?

Hi. Thankyou. The track is all standard plastic scalextric track, even the single lane. I wish now that I'd used mdf instead. Drywall compound that is used in plastering was layed over the quarry / stone area but really isn't the best material and I wouldn't recommend. The rest of the track I sprayed with grey primer car paint. Hope that helps.

I put sellotape over the read tyres,less grip,less traction,more realistic speed and nice drifts round corners.

Hi. Yes they do but to make that section work, the track had to be cut in half.

@@junk52 I was wondering if that's what you did. Really cool. I've been running down the "slot car rabbit hole" lately on KZbin and I must say your track is easily one of the most impressive ones. Great job! P.S. Have you seen the guys from England (I think) who embed piano wire (or something) underneath the track and use their own custom cars with magnets on them to stay on the track? I thought that was awsome too. If I made a track for myself I don't know which way I'd go Scalextric or their invention, assuming they are still working on it.
