I wouldn't say he accepts them. I would say he loves them. He may get grumpy and sarcastic with her sometimes, but you can see it in his eyes when Lorelai is telling that snow story that she brightens his whole world and that he would do anything to brighten hers. Scott Patterson truly portrayed him so well!

I was and Always will be Team Luke. Thought He is very grumpy, he is kind, honest, direct and has a great sense of humor. He is probably the only man, able to keep Lorelai Happy, because Luke is not pushy or needy. He gives Lorelai her space, so she can stay the quirky sunshine she is. What always blows my mind in this episode is how when after he brings them coffee they ask for something else instead he's not offended or angry that he did something out of kindness and they asked for more, doesn't take it as a rejection and as if they're saying what he did wasn't good enough, but immediately and simply understand that what he really wants to do (give them relief from the cold) won't work for everyone in the same way. So he adapts to their needs. Honestly, it's so simple but it can be so difficult to do and find people who will do the same for you

I think what people often overlook is that even though Luke is cranky and can be contrarian, he also owns and runs a diner, which means he chooses to be in a service industry where he has to be kind enough to get repeat business and he has to respect his customers enough to want to serve them, showing who he really is inside.

Team Luke all the way. Luke is a freakin' rockstar. We need more Lukes in the world. He may not be polite but he's honest and kind. As for the others? Max tries to go from 1 to 100 mph practically overnight, Christopher is a mess the whole way through and the other two were basically charming distractions. Luke shows up, every time, even when it's hard, and that on it's own says a lot. The show's theme song is basically the Ballad of Luke Danes.

In primary school I got bullied by this one girl. A few years (maybe at the age of 15 or 16) later me met at a party in someones house in our village. I made a comment about her bullying me because she was lonely in school and she got mad and said she never was lonely and how dare I lie. She then his my shoes and I had to walk home without shoes in freezing temperatures, it was winter and there was snow. A few days later I was roller skating and I just kept thinking about it. So I stopped by her house, asked to see her and told her that we both probably said and did things we are not proud of and asked her whether we can please leave all that in the past and just be civil with each other from now on, because we may run into each other again or even have to work with each other at one point in the future and if that happens, I would like it to be peaceful and I would like to be able to cooperate. She was very surprised and said that this was about the last thing she expected to happen, but she agreed. This was about ten years ago, and I haven't really run into her since. I was only at her doorstep for about two minutes, but we made peace with each other and I am happy to know it wouldn't be a problem if I ran into her now. My mom really didn't approve of me doing this, because she doesn't think the girl deserved it, because she remembers how the girl used to bully me, but it is not about that. I believe that people can change and grow and we can encourage positive change by being kind.

It's Luke and the reason is their foundation. He knows her, he knows what she likes, what she doesn't, how she thinks, and all the little idiosyncrasies that make her her. And he accepts them. (There are some that he finds ridiculous much like the men standing in the snow, but he respects them). And it's exactly the same for her about him. Chris knew Lorelei, but he doesn't know her now and more importantly he is not at the same place emotionally as she is. Max too, he knows Lorelei now, but he wants things in life that she doesn't. Neither one are particularly bad options for partners, they're just not the right one. And that's okay.

Christopher is trash. Every other guy Lorelei dates is preferable to Christopher. He’s the opposite of Luke. Luke is gruff but has character and Christopher is charming and has no character. I have always shipped Lorelai and Luke. I think, as much as he's grumpy and "curmudgeony" as you say, he's caring and actually very emotionally healthy, secure, and there's mutual understanding and love there. Communicating his feelings isn't a strength, but I think he's capable of working through that. I always felt like for Lorelai the best choice was clear. For Rory on the other hand, I never really warmed to any of her options, personally. But I'll only say that much, which hopefully isn't spoilery 😁

I think I missed a few episodes when Gilmore Girls started airing in my country back in the day because I remember being surprised somewhere mid or late firdt season or early second when Luke and Lorelai were written as 'will they won't they' because I missed it completely. And then I watched reruns and it's specifically mentioned in the early episodes and I had no idea how I missed that queue and it made me feel like I missed a huge part of the show and it took me a while to get in the Luke and Lorelai train.

Luke all the way. Max is a nice guy, but he and Lorelai just don't complement each other well, they like each other, but their differences just makes them less able to understand each other. Lorelai outgrew Christopher long before the show started, he clings to their teen relationship, and kind of pulls her back into old behaviours whenever around (until she eventually wisens up and turns him down) and then when she does turn him down, he kind of loses interest in taking an active role as Rory's father. Luke and Lorelai have more of a positive effect on each other. She brightens up his life, and brings out his caring nature, and he's this solid rock who's always willing to be there for her in whatever capacity she needs him to be. There's trust and friendship there, a solid foundation to build on. As for what I've done to build bridges. There was this librarian at my high school who outright seemed to hate the students. I knew I was gonna spend a lot of time in the computer section of the library and didn't want to be in the way, so I made sure to no matter what always listen, be polite to her, and when I left for the day, I always stuck my head in the door to her office (which was right next to the computer section) and said bye on my way out. Over time I noticed her behaviour towards me changing, like suddenly she knew my name (I had never told her), when I said bye at the end of the day, she started smiling whenever I said bye at the end of the day, we eventually just started chatting lightly. And I just saw a completely different woman than what I had seen at the beginning. And at the same time I learned some insight into her attitude towards students (not directly from her, but from other students), like the kind of things students did to misbehave in the library and I honestly felt it was no wonder she was so grumpy towards students.

It’s funny, in rewatching, a lot of the show doesn’t hold up. In fact, the idea of Stars Hallow is really the only thing that holds up. But a lot of the main characters who I liked, such as Luke, kind of annoy me. He plays a great contrast to the townspeople, but him ragging on town events gets on my nerves. Maybe because I realize how important community is. But Rory and Lorelei are far worse on rewatch. Lol

I have seen this show so many times I’ve lost count. I do remember in the early days of watching it for the first time that it should be Luke. Max was a good guy but she just didn’t love him. And Christopher… we all have had that first love and still think what if but that’s as far as it would go. Chris and Lor got to find out what if but saw that it just wasn’t meant to be.

When my daughter was 4 and in reception (JK) there was a boy in her class who was bullying everyone, including the teacher. One day it was getting really bad, hitting and punching. So my daughter went over to the bully, gave him a hug, and said it was okay, he could always have a hug. Apparently they stood there hugging for a while (several minutes). He wasn’t as bad, and every time he started getting mean my daughter would go over and hug him. Such a simple thing. Obviously randomly hugging people as adults really can’t be a thing. Consent is important. And there were conversations about consent with my daughter back then, too. But the point is that the boy had a rough background. He really just needed a hug. He needed unconditional love and he wasn’t getting it from any of the adults in his life. So my 4 year old, with zero prompting, gave him what he was screaming for. Maybe we all need to tap into our inner 4 year olds more. For the record, my kid is absolutely not perfect. That same week she smacked her best friend upside the head with her shoe. There were some big feels that week…..

this scene with luke actually strongly reminds me of something my mother taught me to do and that i still do when people come to the door for whatever religion theyre pushing, because while I tacitly disagree with these people and what theyre doing and think theyre in a cult, theyre also People and if theyre at my door it tells me theyre deep in something, so im always kind and offer them a drink and will read their pamphlets if they need to sit down and rest a while, because at the end of the day them knowing of at least one person who is safe to turn to should they ever have need matters more than what I think about their organisation

As I get older, I view myself less like Rory who is awesome, in my personal opinion, and more like Luke. He was the social critic we all needed but didn't know it when we were young. But he's also the most wonderful person who recognizes that community and friends and family are important. He is a fine balance of love and social consciousness. You asked a lot of questions but I'm just going to jump on one. I think Lor should be with Luke. I like Max. I think he is fine, but I don't love him. I love Christopher - Acted by David Sutcliff who is Canadian. Us Canadians stick together. But Luke, has always just had that 'it factor' for me. From the minute Lor walks up the the Diner and says Coffee, Coffee, Coffee and he says how many have you had today. I could literally write essays in response to your questions, but I have to head to work. This is my favorite show, I'm currently finishing a rewatch of season 4.

There was an argument in my job that threatened to turn into a fist fight (the colleagues were mostly women) on the topic of communism - was it good or bad for our country and for the colleagues' families in particular. That often happens in my country, even in parliament (the deputies insult each other, put each other's hairs, and break each other's glasses). It got worse with every passing minute and the work day was far from its end. I have and opinion on the topic myself but didn't share it. Between Christopher, Max and Luke, Max was never even a contender, it's always been either Luke or Christopher. And I've always struggled a little to choose a team because I think both of them have amazing chemistry with Lorelai. But what it really comes down to is how they act when things aren't right, and (without spoiling anything) let's just say that even though Luke is kinda proud, he was always there for Lorelai when she most needed help, and Christopher was not. I love Max and would have chosen him personally, but the person who I think fits Lorelai the best is Luke. I relate alot to this. I got a lot of cynicism and bad past experiences that kinda molded me into this cynical grump and I complain and judge people heavily, but even the people I judge heavily I always end up saying in my head that they must have a lot missing in their life or hardship I am not seeing and I then grumpily, I want to make that clear, will often do something as an act of kindness. I have embraced that part of me for years. I always carry the saying to people who dare to try credit me or peel back my grumpy exterior that "No one compliments me and gets away with it." Its not a menacing threat, in reality it means I will get back at them twice in kindness for what they said with an action. Its always been my motto, multiply double your acts of kindness with your words of kindness.

I’ve always thought she should end up with Luke, but needed to officially end her ‘what if’s’ about a relationship with Christopher first. There’s so much baggage there that went unaddressed because she was busy being a single mom and didn’t end that relationship fully. Until she officially lets go of Christopher as an option she can’t fully commit to a relationship with anyone else. Max was never a contender in my book because the relationship was unethical to begin with. Its allure was brought on by forbidden or at least discouraged love (or in this case attraction because I don’t think it’s real love. You can argue that point, but that’s my perspective). Friends to lovers has always been a favorite trope of mine and one of the healthiest in my opinion. That’s why I prefer Luke.

Always been Team Luke. When I watched it as a teenager I always prefered the pretty, slick guys in shows, but Luke is just so good. He's solid.

Kirk. He’s always kind and respectful to her and her family. They have the same work ethic and hobbies. He would never cheat on her and no way he has a love child or pregnant girlfriend. Sorry Lulu.

LUKE! It has always been Luke. From the first scene of the show, it was obvious that Luke and Lorelei belonged together.

Luke has crust but he's decent and kind. "They should have been wearing from dresses." I love him getting them coffee. I liked this show because they generally didn't cannibalize the men to make the women look better. Yes we don't agree with everyone , but lets feed them, keep them from freezing. Nice coffee. She has to end up with Luke. They pooched it the last two seasons. It was a shame. First five seasons are very good.

You gotta do a spotlight for all the men in this show because they are all overly sensitive and sooooo jealous. Especially the men Rory dates. With Lorelei, Luke and Christopher are the worst when it comes to getting jealous. For goodness sake Luke beats up a car over his jealousy. What are your thoughts about the whole jealousy issues these people go through. Luke has always been a very dependable grumpy sourpuss... But I stopped being team Luke around season 6

I have watched this show front to back a dozen times, and I controversially think Jason Stiles was an ideal partner for Lorelai. I would love for that opinion to get therapized.

Luke absolutely, he is rough around the edges. She accepts this and works with it. She can be herself around him as well.

So out of the 3 guys mentioned. Max is a sweetheart who is nice and sweet and handsome not to mention he really loves Lorelei. There seems to be no good reason they shouldn't be together but I just don't feel the spark. Christopher is like a weird rash that you can't quite get rid of. Luke is kind and sarcastic, he cares about Rory and Lorelei. He doesn't get all of the girls' pop culture references and he is ok with that. All that said he is not the best at communication and he has his own crap to work through before he is able to be emotionally available.

She was always destined to end up with Luke. Luke is her perfect counterpart. He needs her and she needs him. From the get go I always rooted for Luke.

here’s how I think about it Max and Lorelai’s worlds just don’t fit together, they work great together but outside of them as two people the rest of everything else doesn’t work. Christopher is the father of her child and I think at this point in their lives they would never even talk if it weren’t for Rory so they just don’t need to be with each other. They were highschool sweethearts and they will always mean something to each other, they might even love each other, but they will never be in love. Luke, from episode one imo, is the one to go with. There’s not much else I can say there, they just work.

I loved Max, because a hot nerdy guy is my favorite. But it should be Luke for Lorelai.
