Except for the fact that I've never had any goals. I mean for someone who never failed and never experienced any form of serious setback, Rory dropping out after someone who is successful tells her she doesn’t have it makes sense. When thé person in the field, you want to make a name for yourself in, tells you you don't have it, then you do better pay attention. He wasn't just some random person without any knowledge about what he was talking about. Did he have an ulterior motive and wasn't good as a mentor, yes, but he did have a point that she didn't act as a journalist. She developed herself as everyone's 'errand-girl' while she wasn't there to do everyone's bidding. She was there to learn the trade on the floor, but she didn't. God, I do think it's silly that Rory's confidence got all shaken up by one man, but it's so toxic how Lorelai refuses to see how burnt out and confused and lost her daughter is. She needs a break. Just because it's not what you want for her doesn't mean it's wrong.

It's far more toxic how Richard and Emily announce "their decision" that Rory will take time off and move back with them and get a job. It's not consulting with Lorelai. It's not a confession that Rory asked and they said yes. They make this announcement to Rory's mother. Don't like this trend of calling Lorelai controlling while ignoring or condoning how infinitely much more controlling her parents were towards her.

I would have been upset too if someone told me I wasn't good enought. But, she should have asked Mitchum how to improve. People are failing their whole collage year but still manage to graudate. If one man's opinion shatters your beliefs, your beliefs were not strong enough to begin with. I think Rory is smart but also has always been pushed in that direction - college and a very well thought-out career plan. Then one man tells her his opinion and everything shatters. I think that's very meaningful considering she does end up jobless and without much drive in the reboot. Maybe he did see right and shed light on her strong-willed stand as well.

Rory has a point here despite everyone criticizing her. College, especially an expensive university like Yale, is meant for people with serious goals. Rory's time off helped her realize that journalism is still what she wants to pursue. If she had stayed she would've gone off the rails and tried a billion different majors and classes and she would've screwed up her entire path towards what she always wanted to be. College is not where you find yourself. It's where you go and study and purse serious career goals once you have found yourself. Nothing wrong with gap years or a little time off. Everyone always acts like Rory is in the wrong here. No, Lorelai was. She didn't believe her daughter would go back to school, which is disappointing. She didn't believe in her and that was terrible on Lorelai's part.

I actually feel bad for Rory here, she says she wants just some time off,she is never allowed to have some time off. People are always on her about her privileged life and how she's so lucky to go to a top school etc. However, I actually don't think it had to do with Logan's father only. In previous seasons she often said she had a hard time keeping up with school, she got a D, she slept through a test because she studied way too hard the night before, she was bullied in the beginning at Chilton, she suffered from the relationship with Dean,Jess then Logan.. and her father.. she actually has a lot of unresolved issues, it doesn't matter if she comes from money, everybody needs to have a good mental health and needs a break. We are human we cannot function like machines. The desperate way in which she justifys her leaving Yale and in the end she's just saying "I need time off" "I don't want to wander around the halls while people are foucused" .. As a student ,I felt that and those words strongly resonated with me.. Rory should be able to dissapoint people and fail.. failing is part of life.. she cannot be perfect all the time..

Those who are saying that’s not like Rory to not have things figured out what she wants to do in her life are clearly living such a perfect world. What Rory was going through is actually a realistic thing and that’s what most people are experiencing. She got discouraged from Mitch the man is the biggest writer so being discouraged by someone like Mitch of course she’d be hurt and question her own passion for journalism. I think those who feel lost or unsure should take a time off and clear their mind and relax their mind, body, and soul. Yale is a big university and people there have serious goals set in their mind, don’t listen to those who say don’t drop out of college, if you want a break because you think that’ll help you go ahead but it’ll still be good if you do go back eventually. I clearly understand that feeling of everyone else who already know what they want to do and are going forward with their life and your just stuck and lost in a maze don’t know whether you should go left or right in the maze, or like your on the edge of a cliff and it’s foggy and dark because that’s how your feeling and it doesn’t help when you have parents and grandparents pressuring you. But eventually those who face the darkness will find their light and everything will turn out because that’s what life is also about.

I agree with you not every successful person went to a private league university because that’s my case I argue about with my parents who are so close minded and brush it off and keep telling me how education and degree will only define a person, I know there are lots of smart people who don’t need education to become successful especially the younger people, in my case when I said about the drop out it did help me though for one whole year and I eventually went back because I decided what I want to become once I got my head cleared. @@JESUS.IS.COMING.SOON.. I agree with everything except your views on Logan. He never did anything but support Rory in her ambitions. He was, however, still very dependant on his fathers wealth and at that point didn't have enough confidence in his own abilities to think he could make it without the support of his father. He was told his whole life that his future was HPG, but not because he deserved or was capable enough but because that's how things went. Mitchum was horrible, cold and controlling. He constantly told Logan how dissapointed he was in him, so eventually that became Logans goal in everything. He came across as arrogant and confident but how could he be when all he heard was how he wasn't good enough but had to do because he had the (mis)fortune of being firstborn son. I don't think he wanted Rory to rely on him. I think the fact that Rory was able to think for herself and had ambitions beyond being 'Shira 2.0' is what drew him to Rory in the first place. I think he even said it at one point, Rory was the first person/woman that didn't take an interest in him because of his last name but inspite of it. She was the first who saw him as his own, worthy, person as opposed to the wealthy heir of an influential business empire. I don't think he agreed with anything Mitchum said but he was immature and afraid to go against his dad (beyond pranks and underachieving).

@@JESUS.IS.COMING.SOON.. How exactly was Logan making Rory rely on him with their casual dating? They were interested in each other, attracted to the other, but he thought he couldn't give her what she wanted so he didn't instigate anything. It was Rory that took the first step there because she got curious, she's the one that proposed the casual thing (even though she knew that wasn't her) and she's the one who wanted to quit the casual thing when she finally admitted to herself that she couldn't do it. He went along with it. How was Rory relying on him then? The 'how do you even know...', I'm guessing was in reference to how she knew Robert? I always viewed that as him asking that question out jealousy more than him thinking he's a 'super-connector'. As for the revival, I'll admit I like to pretend that never happened because it was bad in my opinion. The only character that I liked storywise and characterdevelopment wise was Emily. Everything else was just bad and quite a bit of it was out of character, including (and most definitely) Logan. I guess I see their relationship differently. Out of all her boyfriends, Logan was by far my favorite. I think part of her always regretted turning down his proposal because I think they genuinely loved each other. And considering the state of her career she can't help but wonder if she made the right choice giving up love for her career. Her saying no to him made both of them wary to ask for more. Him out of fear of getting turned down again, her because she feels she no longer deserves to aske him for more of a commitment. He's no longer hers to go to for comfort. Him offering her his apartment to write seemed to me like a desperate final resort to keep her in his life at least a little bit. Rory is indeed a hot mess. And by the time the (awful) revival came around she definitely had her priorities out of whack. She did the whole mistress thing once before and felt bad about it so I found it incredibly OOC that she went back down that road. Logan happens to be one of my favorite characters on GG, despite all of his flaws, and he had many. He grew up quite a bit in the last season and they undid all that in the revival and made him Mitchums lapdog again. I still think that that confidence he had at Yale was a facade, a way he acted around other people. He acted exactly how people expected a rich spoiled trust fund kid to act, like he didn't have a care in the world. But he's shown to genuinely care and come through for the people he cares about. He was always an heir first and a son/person second in his family. I think he only became confident after leaving HPG and the toxic relationship he had with his father. Only to then regress and become daddy's yes-man again in the revival. Which, again, is OOC. He already made it on his own, he doesn't need his dads money or approval to succeed. I don't get why they wrote him going backwards. He became exactly the one thing he hated, his father. The one thing people expected him to become, a rich cheating *ss. Which, in my opinion, was not Logan and very out of character.

@@lorehouben4107 I think part of the problem with the storyline in the revival is the fact that the original show runners/writers didn't even watch the last season which was done by other writers. There isn't any sensible continuity in the Rory/Logan story. I mean, at this point in their lives they are still as in love as ever. Then, one would think they'll finally say "hey, we are meant to be". What kind of a man is Logan, in this day and age in particular, wherein he'll just do what his dad tells him to do especially in his personal life. It doesn't make any sense whatsoever😕Remember what he told Lorelai when they had "that talk". He said he has his own values. Hopefully, this situation can still be rectified if and when there's another Netflix episode or even a movie🙏.

Honestly, as someone who almost decided to drop her "dream" college, I kinda understand Rory by wanting to make this decision. However, she was not honest with herself or Lorelai about her reasons for dropping out. Rory should have told her mom how much the words of Logan's father affected her, how this whole situation made her disappointed in herself to the point that she was doubting her own capabilities and that now she is confused about her career in journalism. But instead, she said, "idk if this is my place and idk what to do with my life," which didn't explain what Rory was going through. I'm not sure about this, but I think Rory was purposely masking her problems for her mom, not only this time but many times in the show because Lorelai is a young single mother with a taut relationship with her own family, and Rory acknowledges her mom's struggles. Some kids who grow up with parents who are going through a hardship in life try to lessen their parents' grief through good behavior, good grades, doing chores, and other things because they do not want to feel like an additional burden to their own parents. However, Rory is not a kid anymore; the best advice to this obstacle in life (because sincerely, everyone goes through this at some point in their lives) is to simply "suck it up." You just have to endure it and take criticism rationally, not emotionally. Still, Rory needed a semester break which is not the same thing as abandoning school as she intended initially.

I may be shot down for saying this...It's a stark contrast between Rory and Lorelei. Lorelei would never cry to her parents. She was too proud and he'll bent on her way and dismissing their hand. More so, I see her parents only wanting a chance to help her through struggles and she turned them away mostly. Rory is different; she sees the value of family. She has grown to card about them. In turn, the parents see it as way to do it over as to what they failed with the mom. They blindsided Lorelei because they want to be needed. They didn't get that chance with her. Moreover, it's a power play to take a parent role in a young person's life.

Interesting point of view! I never took this as Lorelai not seeing the value in family or dismissing them, more that she wanted different, better, for her daughter and her parents would never let her if she had stayed when Rory was a baby. Emily, well-meaning as she might've been, was very controlling and set in her ways. It's obvious she was never the type to actually listen to what her child wanted, how it looked to society was way more important so I completely understood Lorelai's decision to take Rory and leave. As for the situation Rory was in, she kind of annoyed me a little. This girl always had everything handed to her. Nothing was ever her fault and everyone around her always got the blame for anything she did wrong. Anytime anything happened with Jesse, stealing the boat... Her whole family and the whole town always assumed it was not her fault. She never got any crap for anything she did and got angry with her mom anytime Lorelai would set her straight. You're right when you say there is a stark contrast between the 2. Lorelai is a lot stronger than Rory is, she would never let anyone keep her from what she wanted. The first time someone actually criticized Rory and gave her some pushback, she cried crocodile tears to her grandparents, dropped out of school, cut ties with her mom... And they were all too happy to take advantage of that. They got in Rory what they always wanted but never got in Lorelai. It was indeed very much a power play.

Rory is different to her grandparents just because she has distance to them. She is grown up with her mother and has space around for herself. The time where she is at the pool house she left with the same feeling Lorelai had. She felt controlled, pusched around and that the grandparents make to much pressure.

@@JESUS.IS.COMING.SOON.. I'm a 20-something, but I didn't decide this on my first time watching. I watched GG first when I was a teenager. Back then I was firmly on Rory's side in this. And while I still don't like how Lorelai handled the situation (I've had my fair share of roadblocks when it comes to college so I definitely understand taking some time to regroup) and I think she should've taken this a little calmer, because lets be honest ultimatums never work out how you want them to, I get her point of view a lot better than I did back then. She wanted more for her child and saw Rory's future going from independent careerwoman to society Stepfordwife. Considering her childhood, I can understand her freakout. I think if you didn't grow up in a controlling enviroment you can't possibly know what it's like. Rory grew up outside of society, she grew up with nothing but love and encouragement. Emily and Richard were always very different with Rory than how they were with Lorelai, as she found out right before she too escaped Hartford. She lasted a few months before she fled, Lorelai lived that life for over 17 years. Lorelai had the money but had to fight tooth and nail to be able to have some freedom, she didn't know warmth and was determined to give her child all that she missed growing up. In my opinion she values family a lot more than her parents do, because she views family as the meaningful relationships she forms as opposed to who you're related to by blood but who treats you coldly. Rory always overreacted whenever things didn't go her way. I find her reaction to this very puzzling. She never got any pushback from Lorelai. You would think that the one time she did, Rory would wonder why her mom was suddenly taking a stand and laying down the law. I have the best parents and they always let me do everything I wanted, whenever they did express a different opinion I would wonder why they were so opposed to what I wanted to do because it wasn't like them. So Rory stubbornly pushing forward with her 'my way or the highway' attitude annoyed me. For someone who was supposed to be so smart she definitely lacked the ability to look at things from someone else's point of view. But then again, both Gilmore Girls are beyond stubborn, so it wasn't so incredibly out of character for either of them to take the positions they took.

the episode where rory approaches and cries to richard will always be one of the scenes that made me cry. i feel for rory because i've experienced it myself. i don't know but asides from the reason that mitchum told her she didn't have it, i also thought she was somehow depressed... losing an interest/ambition that quickly? that was what i felt to, i felt isolated and needed time off work and tasks because i was depressed. even though it is true that stars hollow especially lorelai made rory grow up into a person who can't take constructive criticism and praises all over her, i still think her taking time off yale wasn't a big mistake, it just helped her come to a realization and at the same time bring more hidden personalities she has inside her. i don't know if that makes sense but, this arc needed to be there. it wasn't out of character, it just shows that people like rory who we thought would be consistent with work, can also experience these moments, she's also human you know?

If you think that this all happened because of Mitchum’s one talk to her and that she’s just so sensitive, then you missed the plot. Rory was burned out. It’s so clear. She’s been working hard since she was 3 years old and always praised and pushed towards academic excellence. I also think being a journalist is not really her dream, it’s just what she’s been working hard for since forever that she has to pull through with it. A life path was chosen for her because she said so when she was a kid but she actually grew out of it but didn’t have any other choice than to commit cuz everyone’s put so much into this path. So there’s probably not so much satisfaction in it other than pleasing others. Finds out everyone in uni is just as smart as her, probably didn’t even need to work as hard as she did. She was extremely overwhelmed and on survival mode in Yale, you can see it from her going back to Dean, struggling with doing the same as her grandpa did. I honestly think she’s not naturally gifted and smart like other kids are, she just had to work harder to get there. She pushes herself to work at the news as well and tries so hard to be good at it and gets told everything she’s ever worked for her whole life is something she’s not meant for. She knows this deep down too. In her overwhelmed burnt out state, that was the final straw. That’s why she’s still burnt out and struggling in the revival, even after seemingly getting herself back on track on being a journalist. She only had a bit of a break in 22 years, that’s why she was recharged again to pursue her mother’s dreams for her. She’s extremely happy when she’s in service for her mom, but deep down journalism is not for her and she knows it. She felt pressured to fit in a mold that her mother insists for her since 3 years old and she grew out of that dream. She should 100% be a writer, and we can see her starting to heal when she starts writing a book and let go of being a journalist.

I think sometimes we need a good shake-up and a crash in our foundations in the career field to realise how much we want something or perhaps to be in line with the career that we truly need to be in. I freaking love this series, Lorelai and Rory's relationship reminds me of my mum and mine's connection on so many levels. I was really surprised when she decided to give up on Yale. So much work and dedication to give up like that, so different to the character we see in previous seasons 😢 From a different point of view you can see how much she put her self worth into her work and why Mitchum's comments shattered her world/foundations. It's crazy how your foundations need to be crashed sometimes in order for you to realise how much you want that career. Learning to stand your ground in what you want and being able to say thank you for your comments I'll take it in consideration but learning a point of view is just a point of view, everyone has different learning experiences and wasn't raised the same and although there's beauty in that. At the same time Rory's upbringing and her sheltered life meant she was much more sensitive to criticism, I believe Mitchum was honest and had good intentions in being honest however I do see him as a bully and highly egotistical in the series (I'm sure not everyone will agree with that) He doesn't take her feelings into consideration in the way he delivers the feedback. I think it was good for both characters as he needed to learn empathy and stop looking down others and Rory needed to learn the world isn't always going to protect you. You're not always going to get what you want just because of who you are. Sometimes constantly getting an A* and all that luck breeds entitlement and it leads to ego, I think this was a very big ego death for her and it humbled her. Despite everything I'm really glad further on she decides to practically say get lost to his comments and carries on being that resilient woman again. We all get burnt out at times I think this is what happened to her here. Regardless never let anyone bully you with their words regardless of who they are to you, keep your head up high and realise the pain reflects them and not you. You can be with someone for years but the reality is if they're a bully and they haven't healed then that's their job to do so all you can do is cut the cords, take yourself out of the firing line and walk out and away from their asses before you become like them.

For a girl like Rory, i understand why she needs a break. But obviously, for a lot of people out there with very limited opportunities that could never afford to even CARE about one man's opinion, she seems dramatic here. The reality is that you never know yourself until you're pushed against a wall. Chilton required Rory to step up and she did. But now, she doesn't have any real goals, she has plenty of financial support, so she crumbled. Even Lorelei acknowledged that she didn't know what she was doing and she only made it work because she had to feed and take care of Rory at 16. So nobody is really at fault here. Rory is a privileged person that needed some time off for her mental health. Most people would do the same if they had the opportunity.

I could be in the minority here but Rory dropping out made sense to me. Do I like the way Richard & Emily went behind Lorelai’s back? No, I don’t. But I also know that she can be very stubborn and even though they went about it the wrong way if Lorelai just listened to them it makes sense. Rory wasn’t getting her attention so what was she supposed to do? Sometimes I think Lorelai let’s her feelings of how she feels about her parents get in the way of things. And she always says she will do what’s best for her daughter and wants her to have her own relationship with them. The freak out was normal but she should have put her own feelings aside and seen her daughter needed some time to collect herself.

I remembered watching this show and remembered how different how I was from Rory because I was criticized my whole life in my school years because of my language/speech disability. In elementary school was in special Ed class and hated it cause how yearbooks were like and they can tell so fought myself that I can be in regular class. It worked from second grade till 6th grade but was ok to to resource room. In middle school, 7th grade was put in special education class again and fought again saying me to go to regular class and gladly in half semester got that on track. High school and college gladly everything worked out. But of course lots think I should just do community college not 4 year but yes proved that wrong. Then in college my advisor said do only associates degree not bachelor degree since my writing isn’t my strong suit cause of grammar but gladly I reject it and still graduated with a bachelor’s degree. In the end I think it made her more grateful and even more determined for what she was going towards to. I actually think that Lorelai was wrong here. Yes, eventually Yale was the place for Rory and of course she shouldn't have been so discouraged by Mitchum, BUT it is absolutely okay to change plans in your early twentys, and to take a step back and take a break to figure out what you really want. Rory only ever had the perfect C.V. , it's more than okay for her to take a break from college as long as she was not sure about it. Why shouldn't she? After all it's her life, and it's not like she threw away all her chances here. She could always come back to college, as she did. Lorelai just hated that Rory was not the perfect little princess with the perfect life anymore that she wanted her to be.

Leaving aside how fragile Rory is, Lorelai screws this up big-time. She never listens to Rory; instead, she berates, threatens, and then bails, leaving her daughter even more set on dropping out. And so what if Rory takes a year off? Lots of people do that, and they often return with a new sense of purpose. Lorelai is, as usual, reacting not to what's happening to Rory but what's happening to *her*. She had a plan for Rory that did not include anything so trivial as, you know, what Rory might want, and she's taking the failure of that plan very ill. Then she finds a way to blame her parents, also par for the course with Ms. Gilmore.

Controversial opinion but she did right by dropping out. A lot of her dreams since she was 3 were probably more Lorelai's dreams than hers. And then Lorelai build that dream with her and she always reacted badly when Rory did something different. Rory was a good writer, but I don't think she was a good journalist in the way she wanted to be. You need to put yourself out there, go after people and the story. Rory never took risks before Logan. It's normal to be lost and take a break from college. The system is different in the US, here you enter for an specific course so if you change your mind you need to redo the admission exam to the new course you want or try a transfer, that depends on how sought out the course is. She was confused, and I don't think it was just because of Mitchum said, but that opened the can of worms, pandora's box. She started analyzing everything she was and everything she would need to be. Lorelai and the whole of Stars Hollow, her grandparents, they build her up to be a perfect girl, who can't do no wrong. Even when she does something stupid, it's blamed on someone else. All her boyfriends also projected this blameless perfect image into her, but they did not know the real her. I've seen a lot of people drop out, after a semester or two, or even after six. It's incredibly absurd to expect young people to know what they want to do for the rest of their lives by the time they are 18. They never had to make a choice this big before. So when a professional of the field, one of the top in the business, says you lack skills to make it, it will shake you. And if she were to come back, she would be going through the motions and she would probably burn out and get depressed. Believe me, I did and it was not a pretty picture, and it took me years to recover after. Even if she were to stay away for a month or a semester or a year. Or to enroll in a new school. All of those people yelling at her and blaming her for quitting were entitled assholes. They don't get to choose how she feels or what she does and how she accomplishes what she wants to accompllish in her life. Jess telling her to come back to Yale is incredibly hypocritcal of him, considering how he handled his own school career, their relationship. He doesn't know her. He knows Stars Hollow Perfect Rory, at 17, not the real person, who had doubts and fears of the future. It is scary and forcing yourself to endure it will not make you happy for long. He has no idea who Rory really is because he never cared to see the real her, just the fantasy girl-next-door, who enjoyed reading and saw him despite his awful attitude. She was his manic pixie dream girl, not a real person. If Lorelai had supported her, she could have figured herself out sooner. And she could still say she thinks it's a mistake, but not force her not to make her own mistakes. Like Logan did, he supported her even though he thought it was not a good idea and she'd miss college. Support is not decide for someone when you think they are making a mistake, but to be there for them and try to help them see the right path. In the end, I don't think it was a mistake at all, because if she had gone back, odds were she would have perhaps burned out so bad she would drop out for good.

I think Rory, Lorelai and the grandparents are all in the wrong here. Lorelai should not of immediately dismissed Rory’s choice in taking a year off to figure out what she wants to do. Rory is an adult. It’s her life and she should be the one to decide her own future. She definitely shouldn’t of gone behind Rory’s back to try and manipulate her into staying at Yale. Rory should of taken the time to prove Mitchum wrong instead of taking his word as law and deciding that if he doesn’t thinks she’s good enough no one will. Her stealing a boat was stupid and immature. Emily and Richard really should of called Lorelai first before immediately letting Rory stay. Considering their rocky relationship with Lorelai, and the fact that they’ve dealt with a child running away without warning, you’d think that the last thing they’d do is encourage Rory to move out of her mom’s home and into theirs. I do think they did this to spite Lorelai a little bit! If all four of them sat down and talked everything out this whole mess could of been avoided. Instead they told her what was going to happen in a pretty condescending way. People who blame Logan for all this are idiots. Logan was nothing but supportive to her. He isn’t her childminder. He’s her boyfriend. It’s not up to him to keep Rory from doing stupid shit. That’s up to Rory who was 20 years old at this point. Lorelai shouldn’t of proposed to Luke the way she did. He has loved her for so fucking long and watched as she went through a bunch of guys, not giving him a chance until finally she did. He deserved a proper proposal, not a “will you marry me” because you love my daughter more than her actual father, kind of proposal.

It wasn’t Lorelei’s fault. She never had any real interactions with Logan, and all the ones she had were bad. Remember he brought Rory home very drunk in a limo full of drunk dudes. That wasn’t a good first impression. Rory came home and got sloppy drunk and was crying because Logan wanted an open relationship. Rory’s grandma even told Logan’s mom they heard about his reputation for being a partying womanizer. And then when he went to Richard and Emily’s for dinner, he stole from them and was letting the maid get yelled at and almost fired because they thought it was her. Then she ran upon him about to get it on with Rory at Emily and Richard’s renewal. Like every time she had any contact with him, it was a bad situation. Unlike with Dean and Jess, she got to see other sides to them first.

But why hate mithum? Just because he refused to follow what lorelai and the entire town did to rory all her life that is make her feel she's special and will get whatever she wants? Lorelai never prepared rory for criticism and never held her accountable for her mistakes. The only time I loved lorelai for calling out rory when she was wrong was when she slept with Dean. Besides that everything anything wrong happened with rory everyone under the sun was blamed but rory and that is where lorelai was wrong. I mean I get she loved rory and she was her only child but God she shouldn't have raised her to believe she was God's gift to mankind. It was cringe watching Lorelai always blame rory's mistakes on other people be it jess or logan. It never was rory's fault in her eyes and that is partly why rory end up believing she was perfect in every way and along comes mithum who challenged that perception and told her in his opinion she didn't have what it takes and rory can't accept that as no one has ever criticized her.

Her grandparents handled this poorly. Time and time again, Rory never faced the consequences of her actions. She never had to struggle to be a real adult. And her grandparents paying for everything, finding her a job didn’t help. She should have had to struggle to figure things out a little bit. That’s how you learn.

I feel like Lorelai didn't have to agree with Rory or her reasonings for taking time off but she also didn't have to blow up at her daughter and try to control her like she was still a child. It just pushed Rory into taking a firmer stance on the matter out of spite and feeling more pressured and lost. Honestly if Lorelai had just talked to Rory about why Rory was really feeling this way she might have convinced her to keep going or take some different classes. She basically said NO you HAVE to be a journalist because you decided this where you were THREE and there's a no exchange policy.

I mean Lorelei did well in life bc she doesn’t let self doubt get in her way. It’s always you’re amazing, you can do it, don’t listen to him. Meanwhile Rory listens to bad feedback and takes it too personally. It’s my self work as well in terms of embodying Lorelei and not Rory.

This is the episode I stopped watching GG. It's sad to see Rory like this. She was hardworking and kind kid. Now, she sleeps around with married man, has a no-strings-attached relationship, fights with Lorelai, gives up so easy. I find her very annoying now and she used to be my favourite character. Maybe someday I start watching again.

I just want to say that most mother daughter relationships in high school is nothing like the one Rory and her mom had. And in a normal relationship the bond gets better as the kids get older because they start to understand each other more. In there case they were best friends when she was young and now they fight a lot more. (Ps I know that they make up I’m just saying they never really fought when Rory was in high school)

All about where choices come from. Okay not to go to college, okay not to be what you wanted to be when you were three years old. Not okay to make those choices out of fear and hiding, to sell yourself short. That's what Rory did, and that's why Jess yelled at her later. She is catastrophising her entire life because of this one thing, and this one moment of feedback is unravelling her. I guess if you grow up in an echo chamber where everyone says you're perfect and amazing, it's much harder to deal with disappointment and failed expectations in life. The grandparents should've prepared her better. Know they did the best they could, and did it out of love for her etc, but it wasn't ultimately loving to enable her without asking her to be honest and emotionally resilient.

It really irritated me how uptight Lorelei was about everything. She was even going to be working. To be so mad at Rory to not even talk to her was ridiculous and childish. Rory has a point and honestly, her breakdown makes entire sense given her character arc. But if i was lorelai i would have said the same thing. Its not about momentum exactly, its about not letting one persons feedback shake down your entire belief system, because laying in that for too long is what really does permanent damage. It was tough love, but out of everyone involved in this. Logan, her grandparents, her friends, everyone. It was her mother and jess who had the guts, and who loved her enough to tell her how it was and how she was better than this. She never should have left yale, rory isnt the type who would benefit from a gap year.
