I always liked this scene for illustrating how much Logan admires Rory's love and passion for school. He doesn't think dropping out is the right move but he respects her to make her own choices. As he said in the revival, she never needed saving.

Lorelai was always controlling, yelling when she strayed from what she wanted, freezing her out when she made a decision she didn't agree with. Such a toxic mother-daughter relationship in this sense. All of them pretended her mistakes happened bc of external factors because she could do no wrong and it honestly fucked her sense of reality. Rory was not prepared for the real world outside of her school/small town bubble. Logan was intelligent, but he was also world smart. He knew how people did things, how ruthless they can't be and that talent is not always enough. She needed that sense of control after what happened and she needed time to think. I don't think this was a mistake. "This isn't you", no, this isn't what you think she would do because you put her in a pedastal. Anyone can reach a limit and need some time. It's healthy. If she came back with that mindset, she would probably crash and burn.

He made her choose which if he truly knew Rory he would have never made that moment about him like that. And honestly in the Revival, its obvious he's very content with his life in London and his job, and Rory clearly wants to be in the U.S. She is a journalist and now a novelist. She could literally work from anywhere. But she doesn't love him enough to move for him. He would drop anything for her sorta, but I don't think he would go to where she is. He would never move to Stars Hollow lol. And she clearly wants to stay put in SH now that she is pregnant. But the moving thing seems to be a consistent issue. And at that time she must have known about her pregnancy... the revival was bad. Nothing Rory does, makes sense. Why kick Collin and Finn out of her life? Just so Logan doesn't know about her life? All decisions of Rory were not reasonable except the book writing part. Every other conversation was weird, like the conversation with Logan "what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas - but is afraid to open a closet), the break up phone call with Logan, the discussions with the woman she wanted to write about and on top the interview she had.

This scene needs to be shown to anyone who puts the blame on Logan as the reason she quit Yale and anyone who ever said that Jess was the only person who knew Rory wouldn't be happy without school. Jess doesn't have the only insight to Rory's happiness; Jess was not some expert on Rory Gilmore. Logan and Rory had a longer, more intimate, and loving relationship compared to Jess and Rory. So I contend that not only does Logan know Rory better than Jess, I would add that he's one of a few people that respects Rory enough to allow her to make her own decisions and does not give her the silent treatment or yell in her face just because she's making a choice that he doesn't agree with it because he can tell it's probably going to be a mistake. Logan loves and supports Rory in anything she did whether it was the right choice or not is only for Rory to decide.

Jess knew Rory from high school, far better than Dean ever did. I shipped Jess and Rory in those days. But as soon as we met Logan, I switched over. He's the best fit for her as an adult, I think the revival only proved that even more. Those were truly the only scenes that her life made sense and she was at peace with where she was. With him. At the same time, he never pushed her to be better, despite the fact that in this scene it looks like he's quite disappointed in her, or perhaps in himself for rubbing off on her too much. While Jess didn't know her as well, at least he knew where she was meant to be. Rory, while a voracious reader and a terrific student, is often incredibly immature, and she only ends up growing when others set fire to her fields. I doubt if any of these ppl who are making fun of Rory's statement re "being a grown-up, being independent" can actually comprehend what she meant by that. In my opinion, she was accurate in saying those things. She's over the majority age in this country ( she's almost 21 here)and she can now make her own decisions independent of her own mother. She didn't say she's financially independent. She isn't a parasite. She had a deal with her grandparents regarding the Yale tuition. She's gonna pay them back when she's finished with school, if you recall. Most kids wouldn't do that. They will be perfectly happy having their parents/grandparents pay for everything. Rory is their only grandchild and Lorelai's only child and yet she wants to be able to stand on her own two feet in due time. Good girl, Rory💖.

I kind of think that's what he meant, actually. I hate to say it, but with experience...you can kind of see which people (quiet or not, introverts and extroverts) have the resilience to push through. Especially in journalism...there's a ton of rejection you have to be able to take just to survive. It's wonderful when those who are saying 'you can't do it' are proven wrong (and i wish that was how the story was written, too, to show that Rory had that strength inside because of how Lorelai had raised her by rejecting privilege), but in this case, Rory proved Logan's dad completely right by dropping out.
@shrishtisinha66924 жыл бұрын
This storyline is made even more stupid as it was an entire series on two women gunning it out by themselves--- it was like Lorelai's example to her during her WHOLE LIFE didn't rub off and that's not realistic. I disagree with the comment about who knows Rory best- the truth is Jess and Logan know different versions of Rory. Jess and Rory were equals intellectually whereas Rory always saw Logan as superior to her. She behaves uncharacteristically the entire time she is with Logan- whether it's the fun stuff with the life and death brigade or the more serious crimes and felony. Its not Logan's fault, per se....its just that Roru wants to be who she thinks he wants and changes for him. Jess reminds her of who she was and who she wanted to be. It's never once hinted that Rory has any romantic interest in Jess, I think she understands that if someone with his kind of early life can do so well, there's no reason why she should let this setback upset her so much.

I think when the other person is making a profound wrong choice (leaving university, staying in a toxic relationship, drugs etc) other people can and should alert about the wrong choice. It’s not like “Logan respect her choice bla bla bla”. It’s not enough to say one time “ah, I’m sure you’re going back to college in one month”. A true boyfriend would insist and say hundred of times that the fact that Mitchum was a jerk shouldn’t influence Rory’s career. Logan is a spoiled jerk and a horrible influence to Rory. If this was real life and she had left college permanently, eventually Logan would dump her for someone more “interesting” and all this group of “friends” - friends of Logan, not of Rory - would disappear. She would stay alone, probably depressed, in her grandparents house doing nothing. Logan and his stupid and classist family here a really terrible influence on Rory.
