I think Luke is the only one that has ever loved Jess in a consistent way. It was very clear to me that Jess felt loved by Luke and that Luke made Jess feel like he mattered for the first time in his life. Luke was very clear to him when something was wrong but also let him know that he could be better, he was always willing to give him another chance and supported him every time he did something good. He was kinda father figure to him and I am happy that Jess could find that.I don't really know what could have happened to Jess without Luke's support.

Jess loved Rory a long time before he told her and even before he knew and I think it scared him because he has a dad who doesn't care about him and a mom who doesn't want him and an uncle who doesn't know how to show affection and I know he acts like a punk sometimes but good Lord this boy has never had anyone care about him before and when Rory starts to care about him you can see how it just completely blows him away every time he looks at her and I'm so mad at him for screwing it up with them but also I get it because he doesn't know how to communicate or be vulnerable but I'm convinced he would actually do anything for her *continues rambling about this for eight years*

This is a really good analysis of Jess and the main reason why he fell for Rory. It wasn't just the common interests or her beauty - it was her kindness and caring for him. However, after this kiss, Rory screwed up. Instead of facing her feelings and breaking it off with Dean to be with Jess, she left Stars Hollow and spent the whole summer in Washington. She didn't say goodbye to Jess, she didn't call him, she didn't write anything. How was he supposed to feel? Abandoned. Just like he was feeling all his life - abandoned by his father, by his mom. That's why he has an attitude when she comes back after the summer.

Like I don't hate Rory but she can be so egocentric sometimes and uncaring about how her actions affect others because she's been told all her life how amazing she is and she believes it. She couldn't break it off with Dean because he hadn't done anything wrong and she couldn't stand to be the person in the "wrong". Someone would be mad at her and Stars Hollow might view her badly and she just can't cope with that. I cut her some slack about their relationship because Jess has deep-seated issues he has to work through and she's 17, I don't expect her to be able to handle that. But at the same time, she and her mom and the rest of Stars Hollow just loooove to point fingers at Jess and tell him everything he's done/doing wrong, but honestly besides Luke, nobody's trying to help him. Rewatching the show currently, I've been noticing that. I always thought that was his way of showing despite his bad boy image, he always had a soft, sensitive, vulnerable side to him. I love this episode. When he explains that he moved back, he's telling her that he wants to be with her and came back for her. This is sort of like when Rory goes to NYC to see jess, and he asks her why and she simply says "you didn't say goodbye" meaning that she didnt want him to leave, and she really did care for him. That's why he knew that she had feelings for him and that he should go back to be with her. And then, when they're kissing, he's surprised at first but immediately kisses back, and it shows that it was all he wanted in that moment. I mean the tension leading up to the kiss was perfect. When she says "oh my god" it was more "oh my god I love jess!" And not so much "oh my god i just cheated on dean". Then when she runs off, jess clearly believes that she's going to go break up with dean. Jess always deserved someone better than Rory (or at least Rory putting in more effort), who was always a little too self-centered to make good romantic decisions or be a good partner.

I don't know about anyone else but I literally love Jess's character so much! Him and Rory actually make me get emotional. The build up to Rory and Jess’ relationship was just so good 😭 You can really feel how Rory was longing for him. Cheating is always wrong but I grew to dislike Dean. Ugh I love this 😭 Jess helps her to recognize that she has a choice to make, that she's not permanently attached to Dean or needing to date him because "she's always dated him". He expressed his interest by getting to know her, and in doing so showed her that there's more out there than just Dean! Jess, a man who knows what he wants 😍

I'm team Jess and Logan's not too bad, the first time I watched it (didn't finish season 7) I wasn't fond of Logan coz I was trying to force myself not to like him but the second time he was more likeable and I think first time I was just really protective over Jess. I'd say continue because Jess comes back for a few episodes in season 6

I feel like so many people in the comments here are so harsh on Rory, as if people in real life don’t make mistakes. Did the whole dean/ jess thing go wrong and should she have broken up with dean earlier. Yes!!! And yes cheating is wrong!! But she’s 17, everyone makes mistakes throughout life. The teenage years are most likely the period of time where a lot of people made a lot mistakes and have done stupid shit ... that’s how you learn Non of these characters are perfect and they all screw up a lot, welcome to life. The older she gets and her development goes in the wrong direction the more serious I think this is. But not being sure about your feelings, or brave enough to acknowledge them to yourself... dragging on a relationship that has a lot of good sides and where everyone tells you you should be witth that person and then it’s your first love as well... not good but arguably understandable because they are not grown ups and even grown ups don’t seem to have that shit down
