As much as it seems impressive I recall young AD having multiple 8 blocks per game when he was a pelican. Yet at the time he was critiqued because folks thought his stats didn't contribute to winning. AD has a 7.6 wingspan. Wemby has an 8 foot wingspan and is 7'5. He should be averaging 4 blocks per season given that he can block without even jumping.

90%? That’s disrespectful whilst being incorrect. More like 25% at best. Wilt timing, strength, vert and skill are unparalleled to this day. He blocked the skyhook multiple times POST PRIME. Wilt at the least would average 5 BPG today and like 7-9 BPG in the 80’s-90’s. Look at what Wemby is doing. Wilt was much more athletic, coordinated and only 2” shorter.

That is such an incorrect statement. Beside there are a lot of video of Wilts games. So what are you talking about little highlights? I can take half of Giannis points away from him or say they don't count because the ref missed the call.

Bro, virtually any athletic elite big man would’ve averaged 10+ blocks in Wilt’s era. Hakeem, Shaq, David Robinson, Dwight Howard, Kevin Garnett, and especially Wemby….would’ve all had double digit blocks virtually every game. Even the not so athletic, but tall and long big men would’ve averaged double digit blocks (Dikembe, Mark Eaton, Rudy Gobert, etc). Blocking milkmen wasn’t hard to do.

I honestly think that it has easier to average blocks against shorter players such as forwards and 6'9 centers than the big men of the 80s and 90s. I believe that prime Robinson and Olajuwon could also have multiple 10 games blocks in this era, many more than they did in the 90s.
@CrimsonUniverse22
@CrimsonUniverse22 Ай бұрын
@@johnbarkley925 No, it was far easier to get blocks in the 80’s/90’s and before that. The spacing wasn’t as big. Three point shooting wasn’t as popular. More points were scored near the basket, and more plays designed for giving it down low to big men were far greater. Meaning, more (and easier) opportunities to block shots closer to the basket = more blocks.

Every American player brings up "living in San Antonio". That demonstrates exactly why Europeans are dominating the Association. American players don't want to win, they want to "get they bag". Wemby is the product of a two-parent household. He's been playing as a professional for years now. His attitude and statements demonstrate his drive for greatness. I don't think most NBA players or media understand him. Wemby will be a retired near billionaire before the age of 40, probably before 35. If he wants to live a dissolute life, hit the bars and strip clubs, he'll be able to do that. I don't think he will. I think he's in the mold of Jokic, Duncan, and Manu...a winner.

Didn’t Tim Duncan almost have a Quadruple Double in a finals game against the NJ Nets? I ask bc I remember a ref saying that they counted his block as a steal (he had 9 blocks).

I am not impressed with his ability. It is mostly the result of his incredible height.

Gobert is in the top 3 in rebounds, 7 in blocks, first in his conference, best defense in the NBA, best def rating etc... But wembanyama deserves more because he is number one in blocks. Reverse the roles, Gobert last in the west, worst defense, 3 career highs against him and his team in the year but first in blocks... Everyone would have said he doesn't deserve the DPOY.

I get what you mean but I think that’s unrealistic. These top tier athletes they can jump at the rim. If you perfect throwing it at the perfect height maybe but that’s difficult and difficult to finish regularly. It’s why you don’t see him play like that. I think quick lbs would be really effective for him like if he’s open just throw it directly high and to the rim but other than that just regular lobs I think most teams can get too. Now in the post if he can develop that and idk because he needs size and he not built that way, but if you can’t deny him from getting the ball. Idk he’s interesting we will see how he develops. He seems from how he is currently is going to be a smaller build so I don’t expect him to be Giannis. More Yao Ming type but with a better body for basketball. Yao was unfortunately too big at that height to sustain but wemby has a great basketball body. Luke Durant

He survived this rookie season without serious injuries because the league is so extremely soft. If the paint brawls start coming back at all, Wemby won't be as healthy at this weight. Probably won't avoid injuries either way.

I predicted more injuries for his rookie season. He missed a few games, but he might be less injury-prone than we thought. For big men to be out for a season, it usually means the end of their prime, and several injuries happening once they return.
