The dunk contest MADE Vince a superstar. He was already a known commodity coming out of North Carolina, but that dunk contest catapulted him to another stratosphere, than he followed that up with "The Dunk" over Weis in the Olympics the same year. Having big names would be great, but it's more important that you have great dunking. Mediocre dunks by a "big name" all-star like Jaylen Brown can't compare to Great Dunks by an average player like Aaron Gordon or Gerald Green.

I have to agree with Gil's take on that one. If I'm Trae and I have a say, I'm definitely going to the Spurs. Victor & Lebron are both unique, generational type of players. But one is likely only going to get better with time, whereas the other is nearing the end of his career. The Spurs are like a blank page, with the opportunity for Trae to become a cornerstone of the franchise. With his own legend to be made. With the current Lakers as it stands, Lebron and AD have already written most of the story and are the main characters. Trae would only feel like a means to an end, a complementary piece. In the best case scenario, it'll only be a championship, which isn't at all guaranteed. And then what, once Lebron retires? If this doesn't work out. Return to the Atlanta situation? Hoping for a good team to build around Trae. Isn't it short-sightedness? Sure, contending with the Spurs might take a few years, like it did with OKC. But the reward could be far greater. Also, on a sidenote, Pop signed a contract extension so he's set to be with the franchise for at least 4 or 5 more years.

The thing that Gilbert also mention is superstars in an all-star weekend compete according to their skillset. Bird, Kerr, Miller, Del Ellis, Dirk, Nash, Ray Allen, Steph & Del Curry, Klay, Dame, Trey all were in three-point contests. all of the great shooters basically in NBA history have participated. Because it had been set if you’re a great shooter you participate in the three-point contest. LeBron set another precedent if you’re known for dunking and scared to complete then don’t. It has nothing to do with being the face of the league it’s the highest best players doing with their known for what fans want to see it’s just that simple.
