Lovely memories of when I spent my school days in Matlock in the 1960s. I lived at the top of Snitterton Road. Later moved to Germany and my Mother to Cornwall. Still in touch with my best school friends. I keep looking at your video when iI get home sick. My last visit was before Covid!

Living in Derbyshire in the 50s and 60s I sent several hundred hours in Matlock in the 60s, principally because it was a fabulous motorcycle route from Stanton by Dale and then Ripley. For me Matlock secured its principal fame due to every weekend literally hundreds of motorcycles being parked on its main road. It appeared to be the main meeting centre for midlands' bikers. It appears from this video that no parking is now allowed on the main road, and no massive bike centre has been opened to facilitate parking, bikers' meals etc. So whether or not it remains such bikers' mega meeting place I don't know?

In the 1980s I worked in a wine bar that had a clear view of Steep Bank, the hill that goes up to the Derbyshire Council offices. On frozen or snowy nights with no customers our only amusement was watching the cars attempting and failing to get up thr hill

@@fayemeghan9396 I managed to park up at the train station and paid about £3.50. It only took 30 minutes or so to walk back to Matlock bath. The car park in between the two was full, so was the one by the mill, so was the one by the midland pub and the roadside ones weren’t long enough times. In fact mr parking warden had already given two cars tickets😬 I suppose some residents may not bother with cars

i used to live just off that tram bank hill , at the very top 4 /5 steep inclines,[ very hard going ,to shop ] just off cavendish road onto george road on right ,, i pushed my children in push chair up and down that hill very hard going to shop or even go to work in winter and walk back home ,, though i moved around a bit after my divorce to my then husband , till i finally settled in bakewell , both these towns are constantley busy from easter to late summer, though busy on xmas markets too , though i prefer matlock one to bakewell one, but manchesters even better , each has own opinion re this this though and , to some point i miss living in matlock, drs were great with me ,regular checks and muteral respect , but bakewell as its good points too, just a few let it down though testing on other things now , , i feel blessed but hate the crowds of visitors every week,, there is no let up from this, as its getting all year around this place pushed , that we locals would like to enjoy our town but denied to,and have it accepted we live in tourist town attitude from visitors , but care not or our pain ,to be told to move out then , but all it does is cause anger and friction that locals prefer them not to visit , but have to put up with tourist prices , yet most just earn a living wage , , i get businesses need tourists , but its mostly food places that are gaining from tourism in our towns , most do not shop for goods , but locals cannot get in car parks even during free park periods , to shop local , and tend to go else where or order on line , but what really gets me is the amount of time a year one visits a place , that to me once a year is enough , that they could visit another for a next , my feeling is once a visit is enough to try another to visit , another place is a change ,id have a tour of uk, is a must for me , than visiting same town week after week, it gets boreing in the end theres so much beauty out there ,we need to grasp it with our thoughts and prayers life is too short ,
