So many bassists were victims of sound engineers burying their bass guitars. So good to hear the bass playing at it's rightful volume.

Wut I hate about Mark Farner. He's a man of gOD. You know the one I'm talking about. The murderer gOD. The one who kills everyone and every living thing on earth except for Noah and his girlfriend and 2 of every species on earth (how they fit every species on Earth on an Arch is beyond me but hey, who am I .....) . Every creeping thing, everything, cattle, etc., all aboard! Oh you didn't know gOD was a murderer? Well, try reading the gODdamn bible !

In 1990, when I was 15 years old, I was digging through my old man's record collection in the basement. I stumbled upon this album called Survival by a group named Grand Funk Railroad. I had never heard of them before. But I just looked at the cover and saw these three fucking badass looking guys posing outside of a cave. I had to listen to it. I was curious to hear Gimme Shelter because I had heard the Stones' version before. Grand Funk's version blew me away a hundred times more.

The first Grand Funk Railroad album I got, was the album 'On Time'. When 'Survival' was released, I thought their version of "Gimme Shelter" was better than the original(Merry Clayton's backup singing made the Stones version what it is). Back at that time I thought they were the greatest. I stayed a fan of GFR through 'Good Singin, Good Playin'. I will always think that Mark Farner can hold his own with any of the so-called guitar greats. He's a GUITAR MASTER and was the main attraction for Grand Funk. I'm sorry to tell Don and Mel that after the breakup of the band, they should have come up with a new name, because without Mark Farner, Don and Mel AREN'T Grand Funk Railroad. After all the years in court fighting Terry Knight, Don and Mel should have learned to be better men.

this is so metal! What a huge heavy guitar tone for 1971.Its very apparent Josh Homme was deeply influenced by this awesome guitar sound. If you just listen to the guitar you might think its a Queens of the stoned age cover. Its an amazing song and obviously the Stones version is the original definitive version, BUT this is ridiculously bad ass, and im super stoked to have discovered it.

But, they also like the Beatles sold out Shea stadium so the people in NYshould know that and that the fans almost tore that stadium down when the Funk came to town they’re some assholes for not even giving them consideration with groups like Hendricks and the experience, Rush, Cream, the Police all in there how could you forget GFR you didn’t forget Chicago you got Marks guitar in there and not the group how stupid can you get

If this don't bring Vietnam into your head nothing will. Loading Slicks, loading weapons, flying in, the sound of the blades, the sound of war, fearing nothing, numb. in love with the hate. Everything in hyperspeed, the crack of fire, the smoke and flame. Knowing that if you had no fear you would make it. The steady blade chop and you were going back. This time you made it, everybody made it. going back to the ivory pipe. to the night, the stars, and numbness.
