Many lessons on KZbin take too long goin over the simple D and A shapes and skim right over the bends! You are actually showing, slowly, what is goin on and are providing in depth explanation. Bravo. If it’s a lead lick important to the integrity of the song like this, teachers should always stress it. Because anybody can learn the other chords by ear. Hahaha rant over. Thank you!

I appreciate the lesson but geez, just play the dang song one time all the way through. Some of us can learn it by just watching. Way too long in my opinion. Don’t mean to be an a hole.

This was an extremely great lesson for me. I was a riff driven hack for 47 years. I'm finally seeing how the theory is applied to my meager knowledge. This song is right in my wheelhouse now. Explaining scales vs chord solos just makes sense now. I thought it was much harder of a concept. You're a great teacher and a fine player. If you live near FarNorCal let's get together. I'll hold down the rhythm and learn .

I can't thank enuff for sharing your knowledge! There's so many people that are a way too high and mighty and think there "guitar stars" and they just can't be bothered helping out anyone except there pocketbook! I don't really get those people. They never acknowledge any of there comments on YT! A few real axxholes come to mind. I won't swear cuz ladies don't swear! Knowledge is an incredible tool and if you can help someone out with it, why not! What goes around, comes around!

Awesome lesson. This will give me something to practice for a while. That bend with the pinky on next strong is gonna be the hardest part. Thanks for taking the time to show us.

Hoodrio,Well here it is August of 2016 and I'm just coming across this lesson now, I am 55 yrs old now , Back in Oct of 2012 I was in a Horrific Motorcycle accident where I lost my right leg and shattered my spine fractured my Pelvis, All those lovely things that happen to a human body when it is hit be an extended 350 Ford van with the accelerator floored, I was a mess. not expected to make it but as my wife told the doctor that day he wasn't treating the average person that I had come thru many things and if anyone would survive it would be me, I always wanted to play the guitar but just never had the time, When I got home there was a brand new Yamaha acoustic Guitar there waiting for me from my oldest daughter and her than fiance .( They've since been married ) I started learning from the internet and of course like most people didn't seem to be making much progress at all, but I hung in there and practiced my butt off, I found that when I finally thought about it and telling myself that I would never be Joe Bonamassa ,And that I just wanted to be able to play a few songs at a camp fire without looking foolish,It started coming to me, I started seeing progress and as it usually goes at that point It became easier and easier to catch on to things' I realized that by finding lessons on the internet that were easy enough for me to play but also learn something new,I( was able to apply those learned techniques to all playing in general and I love playing more than ever now, I spent years searching for lessons that had the songs I was interested in ady In would be able to relate to the instructor , I went thru hundreds and thought of this song after hearing it on the radio and discovered your channel. Even without written Tabs or chords I was able to easily understand you and like your technique I've subscribed and after all this blabbering Just wanted to seriously thank you and look so forward to learning more from you. You rock , Thank You so much for making what appears to be the perfect teaching videos for me, Maybe someday I will record or skype and let you see the progress you have personally shown me thanks again Sincerely Edward Grabow , Long Island New York

Good points, Sam. I think that just goes to prove how many different kinds of learning styles exist for musicians. For me, I could practice the solos of the greats for over 30 years (which I have, off and on), and I would still be stumped at an open jam if I did not understand the theory behind the licks in order to be able to apply them to different songs. My lessons are definitely aimed at folks who may not be natural musicians or have the ears to learn just by listening and/or watching.

A great teacher, is not just someone that knows the subject, but someone that knows the subject, and can easily explain it to the student. You Sir, are a great teacher. I have watched many videos on guitar playing, and you, by far are the best teacher. Please keep up the good work! Many Thanks :)

@Hoodrio Excellent points. Mimicking the classics is fine if all you ever want to do is play covers, which is what I've always done too. But when I got together with other guitarists, it would be kind of awkward because we can't really play anything together besides exact replica covers because I didn't know anything else.....so this motivated me to want to know more about the theory behind the music, so I really appreciate your videos man.

your right about the learning process, there are many ways to play this, I use many ways to play it when I play it, good song to learn for intermediate players , learning the fretboard.

Great stuff. These are the kinds of generic riffs I've never understood. Note to self - for the first riff, the count is something like 1 2& 3& 4& 2&3 4&1 where the first 3& is consecutive down strokes on the chord and the last 2&3 4&1 are the 7-9 on the 4th string then the chord or the 2-4 on the 5th string then the A chord.

I finally returned to learning this song again. Like you said, it's not exact but you arm us with so many tools to be able figure things out on our own. Awesome stuff. Thanks for all your wonderful videos that you put so much effort into. I would love to hear your rendition with that singer in it who plays the drums. I really like his voice!

hi thanks for the good lesson, i don't understand the "anchoring" thing of the pinky on the 10th fret. i don't bend it and neither do you so why is it important to fret it? i get the dmajor business but not the technique of the pinky, thanks Hoodrio
@Hoodrio
@Hoodrio 9 жыл бұрын
sean o'connor You fret the first string because you play it. A unison bend means you are playing 2 notes in unison: the bent note and the anchor note.

Note to self 2: where he says he misspoke (around 5:50), he meant the A string at one point, not the D. The frets are correct. Is the G there a "blue" note? What is the pentatonic scale there?
@Hoodrio
@Hoodrio 7 жыл бұрын
E Major Pentatonic with the G just a passing note. Don't overthink it!
