Gimme your food human! - Quaker Parrot shares his bell pepper

Please excuse my mouth full of food but it's the only way to truly share the desperation of Pluto when eating! You'll also see just how much he loves it when I 'pretend' to eat along with him at the end.
They really are social creatures.

he's not stupid he knows what you have is different, and he wants everything, quakers were always one of my favorite birds, have had more than one and I used to breed them when I lived in NY they are adorable when hand feeding them and the parents are so good to them, when they are a few weeks old when they sleep in the nest box and in the intensive care units, they sleep with their little butts up just like a real baby on their bell, and yes they are so precious that is why I named my main quaker precious, and he used to go around saying aww presh presh

THis is EXACTLY what our quaker does. He also loves the heart of the pepper and gets so excited to eat it until he sees what we're eating.

i love watching pluto. he and my qp are so much alike. my qp is a lot of company to me in his old age of 21 and my old age of 69. guess we both are the same age in bird years. i've followed pluto since he first appeared in the quaker parrot forum web site in 2006.

I love the little yip sound he makes. My Quaker has imitated it from his good morning video, where he plays with a toy making that sound. It must be a very happy sound!

@@plutoquaker Pluto is a cutie and so animated! He is a real charmer. Emmy is a little more selective when she talks and sometimes just whispers (not sure why) , BUT when music is on and if I start dancing, she wants in on the fun. She'll pace back and forth in her cage "calling" for me to get her or she fly to me if shes out and starts 🎶 do- do-doing🎶(she picked that up from watching Pluto.. Lol. She loves it. So cute :)

ah she may still be learning what she is whispering. I used to to leave the camera recording during the day when Pluto was going through his learning stage and he would be mumbling and chattering away. It wasn't until years later when I re-watched the videos that I realised he was already saying words that later became clear. I absolutely love how many types of parrots love music. It really does excite them and I think our reaction to it helps to encourage them too. :) Emmy sounds like a real sweetheart.

@@plutoquaker Thank you, that's a good idea. I've always been curious what happens in the house when I'm not here. Haha. Emmy is around 4 years old and have had her since she was around 10 months old. She is pretty sweet with me, has a temper at times and knows how to use her voice. I'm amazed at the different tones she has to communicate with me, to find out where I am, if she wants me to come and get her, if she wants what I'm eating, wants to dance etc etc.. She also doesn't seem to know she's a little bird, prey to a cat or dog. She's fearless and walk right up to our cat and dog to either just sit with them or to be naughty and nip at their toes to get them to move. (of course they are never left alone together - one day that big confident personality might get her into trouble) I'm never bored! 😊

Oh yes! the different tones and inflections are astounding! They have HUGE personalities for such a little birdie. Pluto was still learning new words around that age so filming her whilst you are out may just surprise you. :) Quaker parrots often are little closet talkers. I am lucky with Pluto in that he is just too much of a loud mouth to keep it to himself. hahaaha!

I’m considering rescuing a Quaker that has been cage bound for over 2 years. Is it possible to turn this poor bird into a loving, trusting bird companion? He is adorable! I've had my Quakers for only a fortnight but can't imagine being without them now. They were both raised on seed but I am transitioning them to pellets and vegetables, not easy but I'm getting there. Pluto is so so cute. Are you in Australia?

Aww congratulations on your new featherbutts 😉☺️ great to hear you are transitioning them to pellets and vegetables. It can take some time but there are many resources to help you with ideas. I will suggest using different brands of pellets if possible. I made the mistake of transitioning Pluto to one brand and when it became difficult to get it he refused to eat other brands for a while. He’s still fussy now but thankfully he will eat. I am still trying to find something he loves again. 🙃 Yes we are Aussies. :)

So sorry for your Loss Andy. You must be really struggling right now. Birds leave a huge gap as they tend to make a lot of noise and so when they leave us things are just too quiet. I am glad our videos are helping to bring some comfort to you. Pluto eats a wide variety of foods and his favourite food is what ever I am currently eating. haha But typically he mainly eats a variety of pellets and vegetables. I am no expert on feeding parrots and recommend you take a look at the videos from @birdtricks here on KZbin

ah that's a shame. You might be able to tame them a little over time but if they are housed together I have heard it can be harder to do so. However, I'm sure watching their silly antics will give you some laughs just the same.

@@plutoquaker they make some funny sounds and when I play them quakers talking etc, they repeat the laughing which is cool. They seem to be scared to death if my though. My conures started that way... now I've got them accepting sunflower seeds from my hand through the cage bars. I'm hoping to be able to tame them in time😉

@@plutoquaker absolutely! Well to a certain extent. I'll let the parents feed the young but I'll hold the babies when they open their eyes. (Depending on the parents) I might wait until they pop out of the nest

Adorable.......so adorable... Can you please tell me how many hours do you spend time speaking to him. My quaker is almost 11 months, she has picked up just a couple of words . Secondly she doesn't eat any vegetables or fruits and only wants sunflower seeds.i have tried many techniques but all in vain.. Some suggestions please, it would be very helpful. And what about Pluto if you go out of town for a couple of days where you cannot take him along.where do you leave him ?

Well I am home most of the day and find myself just generally chatting to Pluto throughout the day. He has out of cage time for extra snuggles and one on one time but he's also happy hanging out in his cage calling out when I am in other rooms etc. I am sure it has helped to build his vocabulary but if you are at work/school for a number of hours during the day, when you get home bring your girl out and spend quality time with her. Playing games, laughing, high pitched fun noises etc... It will help to create the energy Quaker parrots love when learning. I am sorry I do not have a lot of advice on weaning Parrots to a pellet diet but if I am ever trying to encourage Pluto to try something new, I pretend to eat it and he will give it a try. Highly recommend looking at the channel @birdtricks for advice. When we go away, we are very lucky to have wonderful neighbours who will pop in and check on Pluto and our dogs. If we are gone for extended periods, ie - a couple of weeks - we have arranged to have Pluto stay with a dedicated bird carer.

I have been seeing that Pluto is a very obedient sweetheart and responds so affectionately,and I believe its the result of all the time,love ,care and dedication that you have you have been giving. Yes will surely try to spend more time with my girl. Mornings once she is out of the cage it's a routine that she sits on my shoulder and we are in the kitchen cooking and she loves to stay on shoulder and she is hyper at times and wants everything I put my hands on. I enjoy those moments . But again after that as I have my work and other commitments I leave her in the room. Dedicating ample amount of time with her is a challenging task. But certainly I will try to make time . And about food and tricks thank you for suggesting me few link's. I am not a KZbinr, but after bringing home cookie(my parakeet baby's name) yours was the first channel I came across and just feel in love with Pluto and your way of handling him . I haven't personally heard that myself and I am no authority on what to feed your parrot. But Pluto has been enjoying the heart of bell peppers for years without any troubles.
