Having a rewind features in retro hard platformers where you have to memorize the dangers that will cause cheap deaths can make them less frustrating to play as you try to develop your skills in the game. Sure, it is like playing the game with training wheels, but it will help you to learn the game so you can play it in the future and succeed without having to use the rewind feature. It's similar to how Castlevania III had a code to give the player extra lives to make learning the game easier for newcomers. Gimmick looks like it could be fun and I had no idea this game existed, thanks for bringing it into my awareness.

You summed it up perfectly!

Or you know… can just play the game normally. I get why people do this when playing old school nes games where you get sent back to the title screen after losing all your lives but I’m pretty sure this game has unlimited continues. Rewind just removes all the challenge and makes short difficult games like these a lot less fun. Only getting sent back to the beginning of the stage your on when you lose your last life is pretty fair

That was always one of the highlights of console gaming, as it's amazing to see what came at the end vs. what was offered at the start. That is also a curse and a blessing, as just like with this game, some of the best offerings never got ported due to the late life release. So we finally see games done by masters of the hardware, only to be released to poor sells, or not at all. Final games if ported, often commanded super high prices due to limited production runs, or super high cart prices due to outdated medium. As most had moved on to new systems by this time, and never knew what they missed out on.

So very true. As a Saturn fan I can also think back to those late US releases with small runs like Panzer Dragoon Saga that go for huge prices now but at the time no one was buying and getting PS1 and N64 games instead.

Looks like somebody mashed Kirby, Super Mario 2, and Mega Man together. Looks fun!

Great review XHG. Speaking of games previously not released in North America, I just completed the 2022 version of Live A Live. Clearly not an indie title, but its sheer variety and inventiveness embodies the same creative spirit, I think.

The songs from this game are SUCH bangers. I listen to this soundtrack all the time. Stoked it's on steam!

The fact that the soundtrack is available too is a VERY smart choice.

What a great review! I've already downloaded the digital version on Switch and have a physical preorder waiting; I just love watching and hearing what the IDoIG crew has to say about things :)

Great review! One of my favourite games. The level of attention to detail sunsoft put into this is phenomenal. For example on stage 2 if you hit one of the first turtle enemies they flip upside down and wiggle their feet in the air. If you then jump on them their wiggling feet push you forward like a conveyor belt. You didn’t discuss the different endings and how going for the true ending makes the game much harder as you have to find all the secret items without using any continues. Some secret item areas you have 1 chance to access. Amazing game.

I tried this years ago, but I suck at physics, so even with save scumming, I didn't have the patience to get through it. Lovely game if you can get the hang of it, though!
@ExHardcoreGamer Жыл бұрын
Totally understandable. I was a little worried at first when I started playing it but once I got through playing a half hour or so I got a bit better. I think the rewind made it a bit easier than savestate at times though. Thanks for watching!

I played a repro of this back in the olden days lol. Excited to check out a modern take on it!

I was planning on buying this one eventually because of how unique it looks, but looking at how difficult it seems to be (even with the save states and rewind feature), I might pass on *getting that one.

Why would you put "glorified ROM" as a negative? Of course it's a ROM.
@FlyingFoxDK1 Жыл бұрын
So this is basically just the same as emulator but you pay premiumprice for it and you don't even get the Arcade sprites. Hard pass. Ill stick with the emulator. And before people scream foul, I do own the original NES copy of the game.
