Are Darktable and Rawterapee not good enough at this point for photo editing to compete with Gimp?

GIMP and either darktable or RawTherapee are complementary tools, they aren't mutually exclusive.

@@LibreArts I just mean that you can probably do everything you need in terms of photo editing in Darktable and Rawterapee if you combine them and don't need to depend on Gimp.

That's an interesting topic! It really depends on the kind of things you do. E.g. if you do selective dodging and burning, you probably still need GIMP. My use cases for GIMP, however, are not just photography. I do a lot of general image editing there.

GIMP, RawTherapee and DarkTable all have their own purpose.. Gimp is developed entirely as a photo manipulation / composting toolset, RawTherapee is developed as a way to manage and develope large number of RAW files which works in a usual way... On the other side DarkTable is also developed as tool to manage and develop large number of RAW files but the user is in control for each and every aspect of the RAW development..

it is kind of really hard to hear, I think you should put up some "dampers" near you and the microfone, felts, pillows or something to get rid of the low sounding echo... and after that perhaps eq the sound up in the higher frequencies...

By the time Gimp3 is released GTK 5 will be out LOL... I always wonder why it took too much time to migrate to gtk3.

It's not the migration per se. It's everything else. They always start changing some bits to accomodate for changes later on, run into crappy old design decisions, start refactoring _those_, then find something else to fix etc.
