This song is beyond amazing. I listened to at 15 being 14 years away from 29 and now at 41 it still has the same effect

I bought this cd when it came out...this became my favorite. I was so lucky to be a teen in the 90s..14 in 93 My best friends and I saw the Spin Doctors, Gin Blossoms and Cracker together. The next weekend..Candlebox. Back when a show was a little over $20 bucks and you met a ton of people in line to buy tickets when they went onsale. Even the festivals like Roar, Big Day Out, Warped, Rock Fest, Further, Lilith Fair..was only $35 bucks and you saw and met so many bands. Our parents just let us go..😆 my first show was Blind Melon and the Meat puppets at 13..

It is one thing to every once in a while find a song that can serve as a resonator for personal experience, This song is one of them, But to find an entire album such as New Miserable Experience that can serve as a resonator for one's own life is a rarity in itself. I bought this CD when it came out in "92 and has been one of my favorites ever since.

I got the cassette then the CD then saw them in 1993 at the Coachhouse. I'd really want this album played at my funeral just so People could have something great to listen to remembering me.

His voice gives you the feeling of the song...the song is sad and haunting of memories happier then his here and now. Well written song and emotion sung by one of the best of this generation. Always a classic and many memories for all who hear it come to the surface......some rides don't have much of a finish, that's the ride I took. He told you what was coming for him in his own way. Sad, true but for ever lasting in this song. Leaving us forgotten memories

? Why does everyone think that it's the vocalist that commited suicide?Not attacking, but I'm genuinely curious. This wasn't written by Doug Hopkins either as far as I know, so unlike Hey Jealousy, you couldn't tell anything about him since it's not related to him. It does sound as something he would have written though.

Rodrigo Cáceres almost the entire album was written by Doug...that is why they didn’t have much success after this album...they fired the song writer and he killed himself after his songs made it big...from my understanding the album is about one girl...

And just like that, I'm transported back in time... It's 2003, a young British guy cruising down the freeway in Maryland in a camaro borrowed from a friend. We were heading for a thirdgen F body show, windows down and tunes up. Fantastic memories which will live with me forever

Time won't stand by forever if I know it's true And I've learned not to say never Or else I'll seem the fool Twenty-nine you'd think I'd know better Living like a kid When my lies may seem less than clever Is when I fall for it Only time will tell if wishing wells Can bring us anything Or fade like scenes from childhood dreams Forgotten memories Some rides don't have much of a finish That's the ride I took Through good and bad and straight through indifference Without a second look There's no intentions worthy of mention If we never try So hang your hopes on rusted-out hinges Take 'em for a ride Only time will tell if wishing wells Can bring us anything Or fade like scenes from childhood dreams Forgotten memories Only time will tell...

My theory is that they might all have dropped the ball on the poor, sick, hopeless man. He wrote it all; this was the last incarnation of his many brillant bands, and the one which FINALLY broke! But as his three songs went to Number One (I was a freshman at Brown University, thrilled by Hey Jealousy in particular, but not by the sonorous alt-rock genre per se - my bad!), NOBODY ever learned his name. By the time I was halfway through that freshman year, he had committed suicide. Never been so devastated in my entire life. I've independently lived his suffering, if I do say so myself, and I like to dream that he might have returned my unrequitable passion and unending love for him. I fell in love with Doug Hopkins a whopping 23 years too late! (Yup: I stare at his photos, talk to him, tease him, and weep a lot.) What would I have done? Dumped him into that off-white Hey Jealousy video GTO, gotten him to drive to LAX or all the way northeast to my hometown of Manhattan, and put us on the next plane to London so John Peel's successors at the BBC could have properly discovered him!!! (Yup: I'm also furious that they DID NOT DO SO ON THEIR OWN!!!). The fucking intellectual rockpopsuperstar Genius of Tempe. Still today, no one in the Phoenix Metro Area (except his own sister, friends, and the Tempe Historical Society) HAS BOTHERED TO LEARN ABOUT HIM. TOO INCREDIBLE. ; {

YOU CAN HEAR DEPRESSION ALL UP AND DOWN IN THE LYRIC. of someone calling out for help. this song should have been a #1 hit, just a simple great, great song. and jesse delivery on the track was outstanding.

It does sound a lot like a Doug song but apparently it’s Jesse who seems to be writing in the same vein as Doug here. Doug did apparently write the guitar intro to this song though. Doug was mad the band was seeing success without him but I don’t remember him ever saying they stole his writing credits.
