RIP Doug Hopkins, the songwriter for the best songs on New Miserable Experience. The band changed after they kicked him out and he took his life.

Doug Hopkins was a sad dude with a whole lot of internal shit going on. Hate it ended up how it did, the guy was an incredible songwriter.

Love the Gin Blossoms. My favorite is Lost Horizons from their New Miserable Experience album. Saw them live last month. Still a good show.

@@DigitalRuler48Yes, the remaining members of the band The Gin Blossoms, led by frontman Robin Wilson, are still performing live concerts. They are no longer in their 20s, they are currently in their late 50s, but the sound is still there. There are many videos of their recent concerts uploaded to KZbin by audience members. This video, the original from 1992, has, I think, the most flashing lights in any video that I have ever seen. Your analysis is spot on. They are a Tempe, Arizona-based band. Their music helped epitomize the alternative rock sound that became so popular from 1992, when their album, "New Miserable Experience", had been released, which includes this song. Their song, "Hey Jealousy" was the biggest hit song from the album, but I think that "Found Out About You" had been right up there as well. It is unfortunate what occurred to their former band member who had written this song and most of them from the album from which it is from and many that are not as well-known, but are good songs as well.

So glad u reacted to this... you're diggin into some of my younger days with this feel good 90s music even tho this is a sad song lyrically it still has that feel good sound to it so thank u for diggin into real music like this P.s. and yes that chorus brings everything together, especially the sound of the music its always been the chorus that hooked me hence the "hook"

As someone who's first serious relationship was very much like this song describes, it definitely hits close to home. You hit the nail on the head, man. Even to this day, in my second serious relationship, I find myself struggling to fully open up to my partner, and we've been together since September of 2019. That first relationship damaged me, and I'm lucky I wound up with a person who's willing to accept me for what I am, and for who I am, and is willing to work with me through the bad days when they happen. That's how you know you're with "the one", I feel, if if they know about your flaws, your past traumas, your history, and still love you all the same. Sorry for the long, rambling comment, just wanted to get that off my chest.

It's all good. I understand you have to let it out sometimes. Some hurt leaves long lasting scars that we learn how to manage more than get over. Some experiences rock you to the core and break your ideals about reality and open your eyes to things you weren't necessarily ready for

Im glad u gained strength thru your pain...sry u had to go thru the pain but i can relate myself and know what u mean, not exactly like yours but i know what that pain feels like and know how it can move thru music...i used to love this music just for the sound because it had that feel good til i went thru this n that n now i feel certain music on another level and like u said it hits harder after you've felt the pain and came back...much love to u n hope everything goes great for u...I love God, love my family, love u and love good music 😊

I agree - even down to imagining the guy drinking while he is writing down his thoughts to the girl. I understand that the songwriter struggled with alcoholism, so how close is that! He was a talented songwriter and it is so sad that he killed himself before the band even became known. We should pray for him for eternal rest. Also, musically the song is interesting and clever too. The song is in E minor and very often the first chord you will hear in a song tells you the key it is in. But with this song the chord progression starts with C then to D and then Em. And the singing starts on the C chord. Quite creative I thought. Hopefully other musicians will know what I am trying to say!
