Good video. There are always desires to go faster and further in the shortest possible time, but I think that for those enthusiastic pilots who are starting to fly, an EN B wing nowadays gives more than enough performance to enjoy the flight very much and do quite a lot kilometers of cross country flight (something unthinkable 20 years ago in this segment) and then, safely, in about two or three years of active flight, to be able to continue to this new segment of high performance thin-two-line gliders ("EN C "). Patience and do not rush, the stairs go up one step at a time.

So many pilots in high b wings wanting to move to these new 2 liner C wings. Don’t consider it are my thoughts. I have flown a Delta 4 C for the last two years and am completely happy on it. Yet I am hesitant due to telling myself to wait, fighting with my devil inner self shouting to go for it. No. Not yet. Get three years on a three liner C. Plus a SIV. And then, if I can handle the worst the two liner C can throw at me, should I consider it. Someone just flew well over 100km in the U.K. last week on an old BGD Base B wing. You don’t need the latest and greatest to fly far and fly well.
@E620SE Жыл бұрын
Of course you don't need it But I want it 😉
@Mountain_Manu Жыл бұрын
It does not make sense to think in dimensions like "3 years on a C". Years don't really matter. Flight time does matter. You are better suited to a 2-liner after one season with 200 hours then 3 seasons with 50 hours each. But I agree with your general sentiment, I would not jump from my High-B directly to a 2-liner..will surely fly a "normal C" for 1-2 seasons before going 2-line
@harryhawk7700 Жыл бұрын
Lots of manufacturers bringing out 2 liners in the EnC class now , I personally would wait a year and see what feedback there is from the real test pilots those who buy and fly these new 2 liner C wings , obviously if you can't wait you have to pick which one to buy , good luck with that.

Progression is personal. It is a balance of currency to give a solid progression with safety. Who knows it steve it could make you a safer pilot stepping across to a 2 liner!

Good review! I have one, just 2 hours of airtime but it feels good so long. One asymmetric collapse yesterday; the recovery time surprised me after BGD Base 2 - a bit longer so I wondered do I need to do something special. But no! Recovery by itself came just a bit later.

I`m flying Camino now, erlier Bonanza 2. This wing is definitely not "first EN-C" for everybody. Bonanza 2 was my first EN-C and I like it. If You are changing.. for example Ozone Delta 2 - > Bonanza 2 You may feel uncomfortable ;). I`m wonder this B3

Gin Avid floats better in the air than Bonanza 3! We conducted real-world tests that showed that on bonanza 3 it is more difficult to stay in the air in weak weather conditions. These bumps do not play any role in the additional lifting force!

Thank you for your video, a question though. Compared to a Mantra 6 which is a 3 liner, would the Bonanza be less solid in high turbulence and more difficult to recover? Thank you for your answer!

He did! Explorer is an amazing wing! BUT depending on talent and your first wing, you might want to do an SIV along with it, though it is VERY well behaved, even more so for the aspect ratio/performance! I still haven't sold mine! 😀- At the VERY least test fly the Explorer once, I'm sure you'll fall in love like I did! Compared to a first wing you suddenly feel like you're REALLY flying and your old wing is a tractor to be kept in the shed from now on... 😛

Hello Greg! Thank you for this review! You have flown Artik R and Bonanza 3. What can you say about the speed of these wings? Which is faster?)))
@oatey8868 Жыл бұрын
According to Ziad the top speed of the Bonanza is only +12km/h from trim, on full bar... so sounded more like a low-C/more accessible kind of wing, whereas Greg describes it as a high-C? A friend of mine that flies the Artik-R said +20km/h on full bar, and also Greg has made a video review of the Artik-R like this one. The Volt4 is similar in speed from what I've heard. Not sure about the Photon :) Hope that helps...

I have the Bonanza 2 which I love. Good review but I'm wondering about the difference between a three liner and a two liner as far as how to fly it, how to recover it, etc. How much of the B2 is in the B3? Is this mostly the B2 with a different leading edge and two line sets or is the wing itself completely redesigned to incorporate two line sets? It would seem that a comparison between two of the "same wing" with the difference being two vs three line sets might be the cleanest comparison. My B2 saved my life once. It's sporty but well mannered and predictable.

I flew Bonanza 2 for 3 seasons. Now I fly Bonanza 3. I don't have any problems. It feels very comfortable, solid and not more demanding.
@mcbrite Жыл бұрын
It would HAVE to be a completely new design, BUT that doesn't mean they can't keep the philosophy. I haven't flown it yet, only devoured everything everybody is saying, so keep that mind, BUT: I've heard multiple people say that the 3 is more of a mid C in terms of pure flying demands, while the 2 was more top C... I also heard multiple people speak of the B3 compared to other 2 liners from different brands as "easier, like a mid C, where most of the others are high C". Lastly I was surprised Greg stuck on the "surginess" so much in the video... Again, all other testers said it's immaculately behaved on pitch? That is also my experience with other EPT wings from GIN... - Before having flown any, the B3 is my favorite right now...

0:01 Good choice! I wouldn't stay in a hut without RAST either! Keep it from collapsing! ;-)

Id say the wing is out of trim after that spiral. 😅 ok maybe not but one thing I hear about 2 liners is that they get out of trim easily and require more checks than a 3 liner such as a Delta 4. Is this true?

Hoping you'll be able to do a review of the Photon. I ordered one, but don't plan to fly in any kind of turbulence until I've had more SIV and my life circumstances allow me to put in more hours every year. Even though I will only be flying it in relativity calm conditions, I'm still a bit nervous.
@turkeyphant Жыл бұрын
Hopefully not a stupid question but what's the point of a high performance two liner if you're avoiding strong big xc conditions?
@NelsonsWings Жыл бұрын
@@turkeyphant I am not an XC Hound. I fly for pleasure, the joy of turning in big fat thermals. At my age, I'm 66 soon-to-be 67, I don't need the constant battle and adventure of keeping the wing open for many many hours. In the Southwest USA, Springtime conditions can be very rough. I don't even fly my Alpina 4 in them. That's when I fly my SwiftSix. Because of the extremely high Cloud base in the Southwest USA, XC usually means flying with oxygen, which I have, but it's typically a hassle I don't want to deal with unless it's special circumstances. XC also means having a chase driver, roads are sparse abd often dirt. Uber would be expensive and impractical for me. I've been very curious about 2-ine wings, and so this current crop of ENC 2 liners represents an opportunity for me to see what two-line gliders are like. There's plenty of sites and goals that I have where the increased Glide of the photon will come in handy.
@turkeyphant Жыл бұрын
@@NelsonsWings then why not just fly a b or a low c?
@NelsonsWings Жыл бұрын
@@turkeyphant I currently have a SwiftSix and an Alpina 4. I enjoy having multiple Wings depending on what I feel like flying. For example, I took my Alpina 4 to Red Rock last year, had my personal best, was a great wing for those conditions in September in Utah. I'm hoping to fly the Photon this year at the Red Rocks 2023 Fly-in. But the Photon will be kind of heavy for hike and fly, and it and the Alpina 4 won't work for a lot of our tight snaggy launches here where I live. For those launches, the Swift six is a better wing. It's like having specific shoes for different sports. I wouldn't go rock climbing in big winter mountaineering boots or running shoes.
