All of these comments critical of her performance and comparing her to Lang Lang are unnecessary. If anyone can play Rachmaninoff to this level, and has memorized the entire piece, and not screw up during an entire performance deserves applause. Think about all of the hard work to practice and perfect each note, and let go of the pressure and stress of performing live. It is not an easy feat. Let's enjoy the music and give her credit where it's due, regardless of the fact that she's Lang Lang's wife, she's trying to make something of her skills. It is so easy to criticize when you are not the one performing.

Linda Wang - Well said! I couldn't agree more. Musical performance is not a sport, but an effort made by a human being, and when we lose sight of that we dehumanize the entire process. I will always object to this.

My mother always said when she heard me criticise someone unfairly - "Don't criticise Silver because its not Gold!" Gina is a stunning musician! For those who can Read the score, Play the Score - from memory - With an orchestra - Under pressure of performing for all eternity as your playing is filmed and recorded? Come on - this is WONDERFUL - and as a professional musician, those giving this the 'thumbs down' might like to reflect on my words and remove their unjust and frankly ill-informed negative responses. Thank you all involved in this energising and superb rendition of an awesome piece of composition by Rachmaninov too don't forget!!!! Imagine creating this one piece! @@Almedicosis The difference between your response and mine is that mine is personal. It is made by human being. I love Yuga Wang and especially her Rach. #2 performance, but that is a different person at a different time and place. I respond to both. You merely want to rank them in absolute terms, without giving us your criteria. There ARE no absolute criteria in art. It all reduces to personal taste. Wang's performance is NOT better until you stipulate your criteria and make your argument. Until then you are merely expressing your personal preferences without making it clear that they ARE just personal. This is just poor rhetoric on your part, I will argue, because I stipulate "good rhetoric" to be clear assertions backed by overt argumentation. You offer none.

In my opinion she has really good technical training but the tone quality is not my cup of tea. Still a great couple with Lang Lang though!
@dirkstrickland1355 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I would place the blame on the recording and the sound engineer if there were one. The tone quality of the piano is a bit off due to lack of resonance. In fact the entire orchestra sounded flat. On the other hand, I think her weakness is actually her technical ability. She was able to render variation 18, slow and romantic section, beautifully. Yet she was clearly struggling in faster and more technically demanding variations. You can feel the strain in her performance in variation 15/19/24. Lang Lang's performance, also at the age of 24, was much more effortless and fluid.

@@dirkstrickland135 Valid point of view. You must be a pianist!
@republiccooper5 жыл бұрын
@@dirkstrickland135 no, from watching her technique it seems she doesn't produce a powerful sound. But I find nothing wrong with that. We get used to hearing a piece a particular way and it becomes our preference. To me is nice to remind myself that there are other ways of playing familiar pieces.
@leixu97195 жыл бұрын
@@republiccooper in another interview in Chinese she also mentioned and agreed that pianists should play powerfully in a concert hall because they play for the audience, not for the pianists themselves. additionally this is not a nocturne from Chopin. If she holds this point of view but doesnt produce a powerful sound, probably it's not only due to the intention, but also due to the technique. Honestly, the performance is too flat, not only her, but also the whole orchestra's. I dont feel any passion in the music.
