This rhapsodic series of variations by Rachmaninoff emerges as a profoundly impressive composition. My direct recollection is confined almost solely to the Andante Cantabile of the 18th variation; however, upon experiencing the opus in its entirety, I am invariably struck by the exquisite caliber of Paganini’s theme, coupled with the intellectual profundity inherent in the adroitly intricate tapestry of the variations. While Anna’s piano performance is undoubtedly exquisite, the conducting of Tadaaki Otaka also deserves high acclaim.

パガニーニの主題による狂詩曲、ずいぶん久しぶりに聴いた。ヴィニツカヤ 女史の演奏も素晴らしい、ラフマニノフの存在を知ったのもたしかこの曲が切っ掛けだった。
