A look back at one of the awesome demonstrations from the 2023 International Flameworking Conference at Salem Community College’s (SCC) Glass Education Center! The incredibly masterful artists Karina Guévin and Cédric Ginart collaboratively demonstrate a stemmed vessel featuring flying pigs while sharing with the audience insights into their processes and creative journeys working with the flameworking process. There’s a lot of great info along with some lighthearted fun in this outstanding flameworking demonstration!

Her playful, flameworked sculptures inspired by popular legend, stories and happily-ever-after tales have been recognized with a Francois-Houdé Award and grants from the Canadian and Québec Consul for the Arts, La SODEC and a Gilles Verville grant in visual art. Karina is regularly invited to teach, including at The Studio of The Corning Museum of Glass, Penland School of Craft, Pilchuck Glass School, Nijiima (Japan), Pratt (Seattle) and the Pittsburgh Glass Center. Her work is part of many private and public collections and shown in North America, Europe and Asia.

Cédric Ginart
While studying biochemistry, Cédric Ginart fell in love with scientific glassblowing during a course on the subject at the lycée Dorian (Paris, France), from which he graduated in 1995. Cédric works at Montreal University (Qc) as a scientific glassblower, while pursuing a widely-recognized artistic career. He collaborates with scientists, artists, industrialists, designers and architects on experimental projects, creating unique artwork and prototypes as well as limited-run series and art installations. He periodically showcases hand-torch, glassblowing techniques in festivals and events in Canada and the U.S.
