Collaborative partners since 2010, Michael Schunke and Josie Gluck are known for their intricate and beautifully formed goblets. Together, they own and operate Vetro Vero glassblowing and design studio in Pennsylvania.
In this live-streamed Guest Artist demonstration, watch as they take a decorated cup and turn it into a blown glass bowl.

Thank you, I really enjoyed this watching this beautiful bowl come to life...Could you tell me how glass artist get a bunch of different size bubbles at the base of paperweights. I have found how the uniform style bubbles are done, but could not find anything with a bunch of them...I know most of the time the artist want their piece to be void of bubbles; but I figured you would know how this is done....thanks

My family visited CMOG when I was a kid, and I'm glad to find you on YT. I have so many questions! Why don't they use more protective clothing or equipment to shield them from the heat? How common are serious burns? How are they not all covered with scars? How hot is it there on the stage, or in a typical glass studio? Thanks!

Hi Mimi, great questions! Glassblowers wear safety glasses to protect against flying glass and harmful UV and IR radiation. It is also common for glassmakers to wear natural fibers and not synthetics, which melt when hot. Glassmakers do not often wear gloves because it would affect their ability to retain dexterity and grip. For professional glassmakers, it is uncommon to be burned in the studio. Burns that do happen, most often occur by touching hot metal and not glass. There are many hot surfaces and tools of which glassmakers must constantly be aware. We have a list of FAQs that may help answer your other questions: www.cmog.org/frequently-asked-questions#faq-108050. Thanks for watching!
