The old building you thought was a castle was actually the old stables of the castle. Its 500 years old, a listed building and was converted into flats in the early 1800s. The castle itself was the large white building behind you with scaffolding enclosed by a huge hedge. Mary Queen of Scots is said to have lived there and it was taken over by Oliver Cromwell. The castle went to ruin but was rescued in the 1950s I believe and reconstructed. They found a piece of painted wall from around the tudor period I think and it was taken to the National museum of Scotland. The old stables are now council flats. I used to live in one of the upper flats and I loved it there. It was so quirky with the turrets and 2 feet deep walls. Beautiful.

I do like GMs enthusiasm ..That was funny..But jees I remember in the early 70's the Castle was a complete wreck..The Castle gang lads would take, what wood there was left from the Castle for Bonfire night..That's if the Greenmount gang had'nt set fire to it the night before ..

@@scotargie7069 The castle looks fantastic now. You can see inside if you Google Rossend Castle. It was stunning as a business place, goodness knows how it will look now its a residential property.

Yeah, I done it on the fife Coast, beautiful spot.

Nah It's called Burntisland ..as its got a wee volcanic rock by th seaside, which is exposed at low tide
