Though there were many excellent woman dancers in those times, Ginger Rodgers was the best of her times. When Ginger was young she was a knockout beautiful lady. 60 films what an awesome career. RIP Mrs. Wonderful Ginger Rodgers.

What I love about Ginger Rogers is how she performed to be a spunky female and not allowed others to push her around. I watch a lot of movies by her and that always stood out about Ginger especially in one of my favorite movies "Bachelor Mother."

To this day it still angers me how Fred Astaire's widow refused to allow any dance scenes between Fred and Ginger to be seen on the telecast. She wanted to be paid for it, but the producers rightfully said no because they never had to do it with anyone else. Ginger Rogers deserved this tribute but thanks to Astaire's widow, Rogers' greatest impact to the performing arts wasn't allowed to be a part of it!

Lol...I was watching this and I know that the heading said Ginger Rogers. Mae West is who I had on the brain lol. I was even reading the comments like, "I didn't know Fred Astaire and Mae West did pictures together? I was also thinking Tom Selleck got his start in a Mae West movie? Of course that was Cary Grant. Anyway, the name Ginger Rogers finally sank in!!!lol

Interesting choice showing that particular clip of Rogers and Katharine Hepburn from Stage Door. Hepburn received her tribute only 2 years before and definitely looked worse for wear as well. Hepburn was only 4 years older than Rogers but they aged so differently. I'd say during their film heydey up through to the 1950s they were on par with one another with regards to being physically active and fit. Makes one wonder what it was to age these ladies so, to cause a sudden breakdown (and I do recall Rogers having suffered a heart issue). No offense intended.

Ginger Rogers was diabetic. Because her Christian Science faith forbid certain medical treatments...I believe she might have skipped the necessary meds. Her last husband (Marshall) indicated he insisted she take the prescribed meds,

@@patricemoran7469 It's an extremely doubtful story. If Bill Marshall was keeping her on medicine for diabetes, she would have died in the 1970s because they divorced in 1969 - - when she discovered that not only was he a philanderer but he was stealing from her on an enormous scale.

While I respect Ms. Rogers wishes, it breaks my heart that she chose a lifetime devotion to Christian Science over routine medical care. The thought that she may have suffered with diabetes, edema or a host of managable health issues that resulted in untreated strokes leaving her swollen and confined to a wheelchair the last decade of her life is tragic.
@user-mx2uc9ue3t
@user-mx2uc9ue3t 10 ай бұрын
She wasn't in a wheelchair from an illness, tbec. She was in it because she broke her hip on the Presidential yacht Sequoia . Nor was she in it for a decade; her accident happened in 1989. She remained wonderfully free of disease until well into her 80s.

A few reviewers are upset that Fred's Widow didn't allow images of Fred without payment--something that was never done before. But I suspect she knew they wouldn't and just didn't want them to use his image. I strongly believe Mrs. Astaire didn't want her husband's image smeared with feminists "Ginger did everything Fred did but backward and in high heels...which is a lie and Ginger didn't bother to correct it. As wonderful as Fred said she was, the truth is, Astaire, along with his assistant, choreographed all of their steps. While everyone went home, Fred stayed hours into the night at the studio perfecting the steps Ginger would learn later. And when they finished filming, he dubbed his and her steps on a sound stage. He introduced more classic songs on film than anyone else. Great composers of that era wrote songs for him to introduce. I adored Ginger, but she didn't do any of that backward and in high heels.
