So the backhoe was huge. I had a part of a sewer line replaced and they were training a new guy to dig. Replaced about 80 feet of line. He was getting better by the end. I left after they started backfilling. Went back a couple months later to smooth out the dirt with my mattock. The front half had too much dirt and the back half too little so I was carrying the extra in 5 gallon buckets to where it was needed! I've used them for years and they always hump up the dirt. When the gas company replaces a line, they replace the dirt, tamp it down, seed and cover with straw before they leave.

First job I had was running a backhoe for my grandpa, ran it for 8 years (10-18) was fortunate my grandpa ran his own an excavating business so I was always around when work needed done. FYI I definitely didn’t start by running the ho, I was the ground man for the first three years. Anyone that’s worked in the business knows what that means lol. Best times of my life even when it wasn’t easy. Learned more in a couple years than most folks learn in a lifetime, regarding this type of work. Thanks gramps for the lessons.

I was on a site once and a guy used straps to lift a pipe a little bigger than the one in the video. The straps broke and the pipe went through the windshield and nailed him in the stomach.
