I can imagine the opponent's reaction when Simon went f5 and switched plans to go for the king..."wait what".

After the first game: "I can't believe what the computer is saying. Otherwise the dutch is terrible." Too bad about the site crashing again. The 4th game was amazing.

Loek Van Wely used to play it the Dutch, I saw him in Bern around 1992 in an open Swiss just after his peak when he was pipped by Short in candidates. IIRC other GMs played it early rounds to try to win with black. B+R ending the rooks cover the colour weakness, the "bad" bishop can benefit from the mobility unconstrained by pawns Chess Dojo have a video analysing the "Fischer ending" Right about fun! I took down the super solid Petroff in crushing style with the GM Gambits line this morning. Managed to mate despite a time scramble at the end

What a nice idea I had picking up the classical dutch, now I can review my openings looking at Simon’s videos.

I'm using some of his lines (Chessable course), they take opponents out of book and pressure mistakes.

@@RobBCactive Also, the pawn structures are so unusual that I feel the opponents often feel way ahead when they are not and start playing too carelessly.

Not sure how to word this without swearing... Your a fucking legend... Best Chess video I have ever seen, you say it, play it and do what you do... This, after watching lots of idiots play and stream Chess has made me want to start playing again... It is like being in a pub with an old mate playing Pool, getting pissed, having a laugh, making some errors, but still taking on the locals and the hard men.... Leaving without your coat, and probably never going back after taking the money... This is Gold m8... Cheers for making my day... Came across your site by accident, but will watch more... Hope one day to play you at Chess... The drinks are on me...

At 1:31:25 Queen could have been trapped or at least black loses a piece if black played as in the game. He has better continuations as well. Line goes 1...Qxb2 2.Nb5 Rd8 3.Rb1! (you give up another pawn) Qxa2 4.Ra1 Qb2 5.Rf2! (here black must play Nxd5) a6 6.Bf1 Qb4 7.Bd2 and Queen is trapped. However with best moves black stays in the game but it is not easy. According to computer Qd2 is best and of course easiest to play but if you need a win Nc3 is a good option as it it probably almost impossible for a human to find right moves. After 2.Nb5 black only one move to keep the game even ...d5. As a sidenote. This is the first position I see Leela having second opinions for some reason it does not see the line it first recommends.

Hi Simon! I love your games, and as you play the kings gambit, i have see that the Falkbeer countergambit is bothering you. Nepo has made a course on the king's gambit, and there are some lines against this counter gambit ! maybe you could check this ;)

1:08:46 what if white plays f6 there? It looks like it stops a lot of those idea’s but what do I know :))). But I am curious if that would work for him.

If you play the black lion you only get mental fun positions if you go for the g5 line otherwise it’s just way too slow and plan less.

54:00 to 57:00 it's the Falkbeer Counter-Gambit, Simon, against the King's Gambit (1.e4 e5 2.f4 d5). The Albin Counter-Gambit is against the Queen's Gambit.

wait a minute simon, in the black lion line where u say to watch out for the trick of white taking on e5, sac a piece, and then bishop d4. when the queen retreats to c7, what about knight g4! he takes your rook u hit punch him in the mouth with queen h2 check. he has to move the king to f1 and u take on g2 threatening to take on f2 with check. your queen protects the knight on g4. if anything u have loads of compensation for the rook! i saw this idea just now when u were reviewing it. i haven''t plugged it in to any engine to see the result but if u can look into this and let me know if this is a refutation to white's trick. thanks!
