I'd buy something like this in a heartbeat! I don't get a lot of time to stay at home and game which is why the Switch and my Retroid Pocket has became my most played devices even if i own a couple of other consoles. I enjoyed a majority of ps2 & ps3 games (at a friend's house) before realizing i never actually owned either growing up. I still hope we can get a ps2 focused portable console one day. Maybe it exist and I'm not looking hard enough

Recent homebrew developments include the MX4SIO project, which allows for game loading from an SD to memory card adapter. Loading times are significantly faster than the USB drive and help reduce FMV stutter.

Could you try creating a Portable "Docked Switch". If you would put the electronics from the Docking Station into a switch and use a custom screen you could get 1080p in handheld mode instead of 720p in normal handheld mode

So if you're crazy bored I got an idea for you, can't tell if it's possible though. A portable PS2 (or GameCube) with a homestation you can put it in. In theory like a Nintendo Switch, which you can either use as a homecosole or as a handheld. With the difference, that the station for the PS2/Gamecube not only enables you to play on a TV but also to use the disc drive.

You should solder an M4XSIO/MC2SIO memory card internally to the main board instead of using the usb to load games. You could just have the SD card slot sticking out the side like a PSP. This method is faster with better game compatibility as long as you use the right version of OPL.

I still have my PS2 fat I got 19 years ago and recently learned how to install Free McBoot using a burned disc that launches uElf. Pretty crazy stuff, all without even having to open up my PS2! Though I did so anyway to give the laser a fresh clean.

Great mod! I do have a question regarding an updated revision. Since there are versions of the slim PS2 that still have their pinouts for the hard drive, have you considered doing a "hard drive" version (instead of USB) but in place of an actual hard drive, convert over to SD (via IDE-to-SD adapter boards)?

Got one of those good quality Handheld ps2 from Ali Express and it aint cheap but the time it takes to improve these modded handhelds and its prob better then what i could have ever done its 100% worth it. The first prototypes for sale was sloppy made with hot glue but now they are using screws and good 3d printing and well made overall. They also make GameCube handhelds and dream cast. I would like to make my own like you but i dont have the skill to make it. Well done!

If you wanted to improve the speed you do a mod to add the ide interface for the hard drive and load the games from an SD on that using Open PS2 loader. Most games support high speed loading that way.

You can fix the USB load times by using the second memory card slot with a microSD adapter. It will give you a much smoother playback experience as well as streaming the FMVs smoothly

I don't think it has been done yet, and has some good games on the WiiU platform, play Wii games perfectly and because of the game cube chip native GC games. I'd love to see the WiiU screen controller to have the motherboard put inside somehow. That would really be something special
