Bethlehem | Walking with Palestinian Christians | short film documentary | The Living Stones
So often, Christian pilgrims travel to the holy land to experience where Jesus lived, walked and performed miracles. Churches have been built over ancient stones that represent locations of stories in the Bible. The tours come and the tours go... but most of the pilgrims (tourists) miss the most important encounter: an encounter with the RISEN Christ. All around the world, the resurrected Christ roots his presence among the poor and marginalized. The Palestinian people, especially Palestinian Christians, have been oppressed and marginalized by the Israeli Occupation. However, Israel is not the enemy. "Enemies are friends in waiting". Peacemaking is at the core of a Palestinian Christian's life. Following Jesus means loving our enemy. There in Bethlehem, where Jesus was born, in the middle of it all, experience the Holy Land through the eyes of "the living stones," Palestinian Christians who descend from the disciples.

Please have a place in your heart for all Palestinians. Palestinian Muslims protect their Christian brothers and sisters, standing with them when the Zionist occupiers attack them. Under the Ottomans, Christian, Jews and Christians lived together as neighbors as family. It is the Zionists who work to turn citizens against each other. When the Zionist occupiers bombed the oldest Christian church in Gaza a couple of weeks ago, there were over 100 people inside the church, if which the majority died. Both Muslims and Christians who's own homes had been destroyed & many who lost family members. Research Nurit Peled-Elhanan and her brother Miko Peled. Nuit is the most incredible woman I have ever met. They are Jewish, the grandchildren of a signer of the Israeli declaration of independence and the children of a famous Israeli General who turned into a peacemaker. Nuit's 13 year old daughter died in 97 by a suicide bomber in Jerusalem. As painful as this was, Nuit did not attack the bombers or their families. She blamed the Israeli government , for making the lives of Palestinians so impossible that it would cause a young man to do such a thing. While born into a Jewish family, they are more less atheist. It always saddens and surprises me how the atheist s seem to live their lives as Christ did, full of compassion, forgiveness and understanding for others.

Christian and Muslim Palestinians have lived together for a very very long time in the region, treating each other with dignity and respect. ZNist terror has caused many Christians to flee over the decades. I am a humanist and non-religious, but this is a sad and horrible state of affairs. Thanks for posting this because, for those who are ignorant, it may shed light onto an issue that is often conflated as a religious issue and the true cause is overlooked. I am a Christian living in the U.S.A., who acknowledges Jesus as Palestinian born on Palestinian soil through a woman of Jewish descent. I fully support my Palestinian Christian brothers and sisters in their vision to live a life of peace, freedom and justice from colonial occupation and oppression. Jesus lived with a people who were under colonial occupation and oppression of the Roman empire. Yet Jesus lived by, stood for and spoke of peace, love and mercy to ALL humankind and not just a "select" group. What is being done to the Palestinian people today in the 21st century was also done to Jesus over 2,000 years ago, and by the very same group of people who themselves were oppressed under colonial occupation. GOD IS CREATOR OF ALL LIFE, not of a "select" group only. Thank you Elizabeth for explaining area A,B, etc. I visited The Holy land in 1982 and 1983 before the Uprisings. Back then, there was no wall and I dont remember any checkpoints. My parents made some Israeli, Bedouin and Palestinian Christian friends mainly in Jaffa, Tel Aviv and Haifa. The only thing I remember is the very bad way our Palestinian taxi driver was treated by the policemen when we went with him because his wallet was stolen. from him.

You are so correct ! Many Christian and Jews are converting to Islam after witnessing the faith of the Palestinian Muslims. Even very young children express their belief and love for the Creator as they stand by the dead bodies of their family. I saw a video of a young boy about 7-8. He had been pulled out from beneath the rubble of his home, rescuers were digging his Dad out. He and his Dad were encouraging each other to hold on to their faith. As the little boy stood there, covered in building material he remembered he was on his friend's bike. He begin begging his Dad and the rescuers to find the bike. He had borrowed the bike and needed to return it. That is one example of the value of morals taught to Palestinian children. YesterdayI watched a video of an IDF soldier showing off and bragging about a necklace he had looted from a Palestinian home. His fellow soldiers cheered him on. That is an example of the values taught to Zionist children where Palestinians are concerned. Research Nuit Peled-Elhanan and watch the videos of her explaining the school books of Israeli students. It appears the roosters are coming home to roost .

I suppose the problem is also that if Hamas and PA, despite being tolerant to christians, are making anti-israel moves, then that will invite harsh responses from Israel, which will make life more difficult for all Palestinians. If I remember the stats correctly, the wall has lowered the terrorist attacks from the west bank by 90%. Every government is responsible for providing the best outcomes for their citizens. If the wall has reduced terrorism by 90%, the the israeli government owes that responsibility to its citizens. The PA and Hamas, however, owe to their citizens security and comfort, which includes not making moves against Israel that will invite blockades or aggression. So I guess I'm trying to understand how Palestinians think that the PA and Hamas are providing these things for their citizens if terrorism is still a thing that Israel is forced to protect itself against. I'm thinking that far more diplomatic and secular governments in Gaza and the west bank would do far more good for the Palestinians. Please correct me if and where I am wrong.

Thank you for asking! All of the Christians in the film live in the West Bank, primarily in Bethlehem and East Jerusalem. At the time of our interviews (2018), the largest obstacle to having a good life was the Israeli occupation - Hamas and PLO were never mentioned.
