IMHO, There are 3 main points on this trick shot: 1. Before hitting the shuttle, hold your racquet and maintain its face to the false direction you want the opponent to go. Hold the racquet near the shuttle as if you want to anticipate it quickly. 2. Right before you hit the shuttle, use your wrist to slightly retract your racquet angle. Then change the direction of your racquet face to the real direction you want the shuttle to go and hit it. 3. To maximize the trickshot effectiveness, sometimes you should try to sway your body to the opposite of the shuttle direction (look at the sway of Ginting's body after hitting the shuttle). Increasing your wrist flexibility also helps a lot. These tips also work if you want to do a fake push like Ginting usually do when doing a drop shot

I am almost between beginner & intermediate player. Last week i did almost similar to this deception without having anything in mind. On first time itself, it was success. The difference what i did is at the last fraction of second i sliced a bit instead of tapping like this. So my arm movement looked like a whole single movement. Opponent completely confused. Only today i am seeing a video similar to that shot. Somewhat happy.

Hey coaches, two years ago you did a video about how Momota plays the half-court and seldom “opens up” the court unless the opponent is out of position. Do you think he still does the same thing now, given the likely possibility that perhaps half the world is now probably clued in on that strategy? I see more recent videos of his, e.g. the Malaysian Open final this year against Viktor and it looks like he now crosses the court more.
@BadmintonFamly
@BadmintonFamly 3 жыл бұрын
Yes for sure he has more options now in his game, and Viktor knows that small trick so Momota needs to change his game👍🏻
@KeithHiew
@KeithHiew 3 жыл бұрын
Badminton Famly coach what do you think of Lin Dan’s game when he was at his peak? Did also play the half court? I tried looking at his matches, I can’t seem to find any trace of this strategy. It seems he is comfortable crossing the shuttle or placing it straight, though I do suspect we all have a tendency of playing straight shots more often than not.

LD is KNOWN, even to LCW himself, to be the best player in singles. Although I agree that LCW is extremely good in those areas, his deception is not that good at all compared to LD. How can the most complete player have a ratio of 12-28 against LD? Clearly, he's doing missing something from the ''complete package''. LD is the better player in terms of Attack, Deception, Mental Strength, Flawless Footwork, Reading/Anticipation. LCW is better in Defense (debatable), Stamina, Physical Endurance/Agility, while his footwork is exceptional, he needs to maintain an incredible stamina in order to keep up, while LD's has more ''flow'' and less effort to it. And yeah, I'll give it to you, he has a better fighting spirit. But LD is the goat, he doesn't flinch or get nervous even when he is down 18-20 in the third set. A lot of people think that LCW has the best footwork, but in this area, I would disagree, LD footwork is effortless, it seems like he has the best body/height ratio (1m78), he only has to do 1-2 steps to get to where he wants, while LCW seems to be on the shorter side (1m70) so he looks like he has to do extra steps if you analyze their footwork. Also, in order to have a good footwork, people don't usually mention this, but you need to have good reading capabilities/anticipation and LD is a lot stronger in this area, he reads LCW so well. Not to say that LCW is not good, he is a legend obviously. But LD is #1.
