And FYI, Marshall may have written this, but is is her story too, she has genuinely lived her version of this life, you can really tell. And she got her whole family involved, that's bro on the sweet, rich country gee-tar, other bro on the banging keys and Dad on the lap steel. Ah-maze-ing. Her interpretation of Eminem's lyrics is amazing. The audience were totally spellbound as this was outside her usual country music. They were blown away by her performance. Best cover ever. The emotion was palpable. It really hits differently.

The amount of emotion she put into this performance is amazing. No matter how many times I've watched it or listened to it on spotify, I am in awe of her interpretation of this Eminem song. For me, this song has stood the test of time and is just as relevant today as it was when it was released.

Kasey Chambers is an Australian legend: the youngest person to be inducted into the Australian Music Hall of Fame, a dozen albums and has more than 30 ARIA Awards (the AU Grammy's). She is beloved but is ignored by radio and was shunned by Sony. She's been performing in her father's band since she was 12 years old (her brother is backing vocals and her dad is on the steel guitar on stage here). She had some pop hits in the 90s but her heart and soul is Country in her own style. She wanted to commemorate the 20th anniversary of this song because she loves Eminem, and she had the time to rearrange and compose this masterpiece during lockdown. She is showing so much emotion because she has lived this to a degree as well. She is now 48 years old and a mother of three. This recording is the first time it was ever performed live and was done at the end of the concert. They thought it went well, so they used the recording from the sound desk and asked their fans who were in attendance to provide any footage they had to composite this one together. While there has been no public approval from Em, she has been allowed to put this song up on Spotify without challenge.

Kasey Chambers is an accomplished Australian country singer-songwriter, who commenced her solo career in 1999; prior to this she performed with her father(Bill), mother(Diane) and older brother(Nash) in the family group Dead Ringer Band. Kasey is a huge Eminem fan, and during the lockdown for Covid reworked Eminem's rap song into her own song; such was the difference between the original and her version, she was given permission to upload this performance to Spotify in it's own right. Kasey has struggled at times, resisting being pigeon-holed to one music style; her 2001hit song Not Pretty Enough is a commentary on the reluctance of mainstream radio stations towards playing her music, and her 2017 hit song Ain't No Little Girl is meant to answer the questions raised in Not Pretty Enough. Enjoy this great Australian artist.

This is an amazing cover. Kasey's done an amazing job with both the arrangement and the performance. I also love the tone of that first guitar & the guy's harmonies. & at the end they were all ramped it up . Kasey, her dad on the slide guitar & wow that guy on keyboards. Brilliant show. Kasey is a Hall of Fame member in Aus. She is a veteran and a pro. I love to have seen live but it was many hours of driving from my place :( Fun fact, the guy on the (slide) guitar and wearing a hat is her father.

God, I love this cover! It's interesting how different the emotional content is between this and the original. I feel like the original expresses more of a determination to win, where this is a determination not to lose. It sounds like they should be the same thing, but they're not.

I liked your reaction until you commented about the introduction of the guitar taking you to a “Western”. Without being entirely sure why you were saying that I do feel sure you got that up side down. If a warm and tenderly played guitar makes you think of Westerns … could that be because Hollywood employed great musicians and composers to score a film that audiences would warm to? I must be getting up to the 100 mark watching the reactions to this performance, I am not a fan of too many pauses but this was okay. Great reaction. Someone may have already posted this but that's her dad shredding it on lap/steel. My all time favourite Kasey song used to be "Rattlin Bones'' but I am afraid this has taken over now.....

Newcastle Civic Centre holds about 1500 and I'm fairly sure this was the first time it was played to an audience. Lucky people! That's Kasey's dad on the slide guitar. This has been on my playlist since hearing it in late '22.

It's worth another run through concentrating on what her dad is doing. There are some lines he plays that are back in the mix a bit but once you hear them, man, they're really interesting and then you can't help but notice them every time. REALLY well arranged and for a live recording really well mixed but I do wish his stuff was a bit more prominent at moments.

Kasey Chambers has always been brilliant it just took an Eminem cover to break her to the wider world. However she did have one song, The Capitan, featured on the Sopranos. The woman is incredible as is her family and band who back her. Tighter than a drum and harder hitting than Mike Tyson (a fairly dated reference I will admit😂). Kasey is an Australian treasure!

@johnnewman366 No shit man, it's owned by Eight Mile Style and the Bass brothers, who are Marshalls publishing Company. HOWEVER, Marshall instructed them to allow her to stream this version on her Spotify and not include it in the multitude of lawsuits that Eight Mile Style has brought against Spotify. Since all this explanation that I just had to go through to be factually correct is so much longer and drawn out, I chose to make my original statement. Which both amount to the same thing which is Kasey can have this version up and not worry about getting sued. So thank you Mr Newman for allowing the youtube universe the proper explanation. When the guitar comes in it sounds very Southern to me. Even when they start to rock it. Lynyrd skynyrd-esk. Like Simple Man. But she sounds like a 20 year old mother at the beginning and then a bit like Janis.

Kasey is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the Australian music scene. I would recommend watching Top 150 Australian Bands and Singers, this will give a pretty good overview of our music scene. Names like Olivia Newton John, Tina Arena, John Farnham, Jimmy Barnes, INXS, AC/DC, Hunters and Collectors, and Crowded House just to name a few. I hope you take the opportunity to listen some great Australian talent.
