Hey friends! A couple notes/updates I want to mention in this comment: I’ve missed you! I’m getting back into the swing of things with this cover reaction several of you have requested over the past several months. Oh man, this was FUN! Also, CHANNEL MEMBERSHIPS ARE LIVE! As I get back to more regular content, I wanted to launch them since again, several of you have expressed a desire to be able to support in that way. No pressure, of course, but the option is now there if you do want to check it out! Cant wait to connect with you more regularly again. Recovery is taking all of my mental and physical energy and focus, but I’m sticking to the plan and determined to be successful this time around!💕🖖🏼 EDIT: Sorry the audio isn’t great here, it gave me issues I didn’t realize until after I was finished editing.

You are the master reactor, never ever have I seen someone react and define exactly what Kasey has done with the song. She deconstructed the rap song, got to the heart of Em's emotions when he wrote the lyrics, then took his lyrics and flows and rhymes, along with his emotions, and turned it into her experience, using her musical style. Kudos to you, and you have got another sub.

Thank you, my friend, this means so much to my heart!🥰 She did an absolutely masterful job with this arrangement and performance! I’m glad you were able to enjoy some of the commentary I added, she really blew me away with how she transformed this and made it her own, while keeping the original spirit of the song alive. So happy to have you here!😊💕

@@BeccaDoss hey from Australia! 😊 firstly, I LOVE your reaction to this song as well.. my partner and I went to see Kasey at a pub in a small country town called Cobar in Australia last year, and even without all the band, the effect was exactly as it is in this clip. My partner isn’t a country fan, and he walked away saying it was amazing. Can I ask you to look at two other songs of Kasey’s.. Nullarbor Song and Not Pretty Enough.. both beautiful songs. Also one called I Still Pray, a duet with another great Aussie artist Paul Kelly. Again, totally love your response to one of our great aussie artists, and you’ve got yourself a new subscriber 😊

It’s embarrassing how many times I’ve watched reactions to this song - it’s fun to watch people’s jaws drop - your reaction was so joyous and uplifting. Look forward to your next one. (On an aside - not only is Kasey ridiculously talented - she has a fascinating story and is down to earth, authentic and funny - and always gives everything in her live performances)

Becca, i have heard you recently saying or writing on your community tab that people accuse you of "overreacting" or even faking. Don´t you dare to EVER change ! When you let your body and your face and your eyes speak and show your emotions, that is YOU ! And we feel it and love it ! I am getting goosebumps when i watch YOU react. What Kasey did with this iconic song is nothing short of phenomenal. Others here in the comments could express it better than me. She took it, transformed it, made it her own, but still showed respect to the original. The BEST cover of ANY song i have ever seen.

I haven’t yet had the words that feel “right” to reply to this comment that touched my heart and soul on a deep, DEEP level. It is still surreal to me to not only be accepted for who I am, without having to try to tone down my legit honest emotions, but to also have people say that’s what they enjoy about a lot of this. I spent so much of my life being called “too emotional” or “too sensitive” or told to “stop overreacting,” and this community has blown my away by embracing who I am without trying to present myself in a way I think is expected. It’s been a huge blessing to me, just like your words here.💕 And I agree, Kasey created something with that cover that can never be matched, it’s already iconic and as much as I love Em, I’ve listened to her version many more times since recording that video than I have the original.😁

@@BeccaDoss I just had tears in my eyes reading your reply. Not sad tears, not happy tears, just because it moved me so much. And there is absolutely *nothing* wrong about being sensitive. I feel deep inside what you wrote there. Maybe it is also because of my decades with depression and loneliness, i have buried most of my emotions. But when i see a person like you, who clearly shows openly what goes on in your mind and heart and soul, i absolutely love it, to almost the point that it feels overwhelming. Because of that, i sometimes have to pause your videos and come back later. PLEASE don´t see that as a reason to tone down, ever. Some people can handle emotions better than others. And there is nothing wrong about that. We are all human beings ( Thanks Ren :) ) with different life experiences. You keep doing what feels right for you, without hesitation. Seems like you have a stable fan base who loves you for exactly that reason. You are definitely one of my favorites in the reactors community.

I hardly ever comment on the hundreds of reaction videos I have already seen, but this one is special. I had heard the song already (probably because of the tons of Ren reactions I have seen) and always enjoyed it, but seeing your reaction to it is an entirely different kind of thing. Yes, I guess you needed this. Yes, you enjoyed it, emphasis on JOY. You're putting so much of yourself into your reactions, I'm glad to see you're getting back some of what joy you spread.

I’m so late getting to some of these comments, and I apologize for that. Often, I try to answer as many comments as I can, at least in the first several days after posting, but when I come to comments that really touch my soul, I want to wait until I can give them the reply they deserve, which is what happened with your words here. Thank you so much for such a kind, encouraging comment. And I’m so glad to hear my joy was able to come through the screen. I absolutely needed it, and it always makes my heart smile to know others are able to enjoy something that’s also brought me joy or healing in some way.😊 I’m hoping to get on more of a regular schedule sooner rather than later, so I’m really looking forward into continuing to just pour everything I have into these reactions-honestly, I’m horrible at faking emotion of any kind, so if I were putting it on, it would be painfully transparent and unsustainable. All that to say, I really appreciate you being here, AND taking time to leave such thoughtful words, especially when you mentioned you don’t necessarily often comment on the many reactions you’ve seen-it means a lot to me.💕

And when it comes to music-especially music that resonates personally-I don’t think there’s a single other thing on earth that affects me like that. It’s a blessing to be able to share it with others. I agree-this performance would be powerful even if someone didn’t already know the original lyrics, but knowing them well definitely adds another layer of appreciation and awe for this masterpiece of a cover.💕

I'm so stoked that you got to hear and react to Kasey. Her back catalogue is stunning. Kasey makes being an aussie something to be super proud of. I've NEVER heard a better cover. And YES 100% she broke it down and rebuilt it. With a nod from Em for her to release it on Spotify. Kasey grew up with her Dad(who's on stage with her in this and most of her live performances), who had a country band. Kasey has cleaned up on many an aussie country and popular music awards. She crosses over from folk, country, ballads, popular music etc....She is a true aussie music ICON. I hope like me that you can gain some strength and determination from this cover. First time listener and the moment you said 'recovery', I smiled and subbed! I'm an old hippie, raised in the 'drug culture' of the times. But I do not mean to infer anything from your own personal journey. Recovery takes many forms, and I have experienced it firsthand myself, and secondhand with others, with addiction, cancer, and physical & psychological trauma. Over the decades music has always been a bridge, a life-preserver, and food for the soul. I see from other comments that you're pointed in the right direction with Kasey, she was raised in a family of country/folk artists. Her Dad playing the lap-slide guitar, in that performance is the one who pushed her to go solo and leave the family band. Happy diving into this rabbit hole! Peace and love from Ct,

Kasey arranged this during covid lockdown. She's been a fan of Em's as long as you have & her song "Not Pretty Enough" got some traction in the US back in 2001 (Lose Yourself was out in 2002). So she's a contemporary of his, slightly younger, had her own struggles in the industry informing her performance along with the fondness for the song.

@BeccaDoss Yes. Not Pretty Enough was about struggles with the music / radio execs wanting her to present like LeeAnn Rimes, Trisha Yearwood, the Chick's, Shania Twain & maybe even Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, Shakira & Jessica Simpson rather than what she was, which was a slightly punk looking girl with mousey hair tied up & sticking out at all angles (by choice), prominent nostril & lip rings and minimal make-up. Not baring a lot of flesh or wearing typical country gear. There are a number of clips for Not Pretty Enough. I like kzbin.info/www/bejne/qHXCqJh3ZsR2oacsi=B0nAsovaW66PDckN best, all the women saying the same thing. Don't know if this one was official. There are two others: School dance setting (Australia) and bus depot setting (US).

Hello Becca, I watch a LOT of different reaction channels but somehow today/tonight was the first time I stumbled on yours. I absolutely loved your reaction. My dad was born on Oct 31st, years ago of course. He's passed now, literally 27 years gone, but the pain is sometimes still very poignant, especially on days like today. So I was feeling very, very melancholy today, and then I found this reaction of yours. I think this song by Eminem is so powerful and so poignant because people of all walks of life can reach out and identify with it....that passionate desperation and belief that you **HAVE** to do something. With out knowing much about eating disorders I can only imagine the various ways this song touched you back when it was first out, or when you first discovered it, but I feel that way about this song too, despite our many differences. So here I am, 3am EST in the States, flipping channels on YT, and I stumble on your reaction Your reaction is FANTASTIC. It's JUST as passionate with a different feeling than the way Kasey sings this song, but it's passion just the same. Your facial expressions, your arm movements, the way you talk about it in the pauses, its just so easy to see how you feel: That is complete and utter joy at this experience. I needed that dose of joy. That happiness, that ecstatic passion for something good, something great, something real and something powerful that we can identify with. It's a sort of catharsis, and I needed it tonight. Thank you for the serotonin rush. I wish you well on your journey to recovery, and I rewarded all of this with a like, favorite, subscribe, and all notifications. Its nice to see you here, and I'll dig into your various other reactions later when it's not 3AM. -Gabriel

Hi Becca, Kudos to you for your spontaneous, knowledgeable and sensitive reaction. (You were one of, if not, the most emotionally expressive out of >100 people). Thank you.💫 Although I'm a little late to the comments and have given lots of 👍, I can add. that Kasey was 46 in June, 2022 when she - and her fantastic band - (with her dad on steel slide guitar) performed her epic, musical masterpiece... and *at . the . end .* of her full concert. Although I'm not into a lot of swear words, the 'skid' censor sounds detracted greatly ( for me) from the continuity, flow and intensity. It wasn't applied on any of the other 100+ KZbinr Reactions for this song. Hope YT isn't censoring more than before.😡 All the best from Debbie in Australia. ✌☮🕯💙
@BeccaDoss Жыл бұрын
Thank you, Debbie! I’m really glad you enjoyed this one.😁 It always means the world to me when others are able to connect with my own emotions-it blows my mind what can be felt through a screen! I tend to wear my heart on my sleeve…or in this case, in my reactions. I’m notoriously bad at faking emotion, So anything you ever see here is 100% the reaction I would have if I were watching it on my own without a camera. Including the commentary, to which my husband can attest.😂 It’s absolutely AMAZING That she did this, after she had already done a two hour concert/performance! That not easy AT ALL! (As you obviously know😊) I apologize the censoring took you out of it in those spots, I understand what you’re saying, but I can tell you that this time, it’s not actually KZbin doing it. I just made a personal decision several years ago on all public-facing social media. There are certain words or topics I typically edit in some way, not because I think they’re “bad“ but because I know a lot of the people who have been following my journey for a long time may not be comfortable with them. I’ll also admit, I actually don’t like the way I ended up doing this one. I tried something different and it definitely didn’t work the way I hoped it would. It sounded much less obtrusive in my video editing software than it sounds on KZbin, and as far as that side of things goes, I was having some glitches with audio production, so I wasn’t able to get an accurate read on those moments. Once I realized how they sounded in the final video, a lot of people had already seen it and had taken time to leave kind, thoughtful comments (such as yours💕), and I didn’t want to inadvertently delete those by deleting the video. I am sorry if it takes away from the performance. It’s just a personal decision I’ve stuck to for several years, and I’m actually not a fan of censorship as a whole, so if I didn’t feel very strongly, and have a few very specific reasons and people in mind, I probably wouldn’t do it. Usually I put in a fairly innocuous reverse-clip sound effect, and most of the time it doesn’t mess up the flow of the song all that much, or sound so brazenly out of place. It was a little different here, since those words were more extended (since she’s singing and it’s not a quick word in the middle of pretty rapid fire lyrics) than they are in a lot of the rap videos I’ve reacted to, so the audio effect I usually use didn’t feel like it actually did what I needed it to do. I probably should’ve just cut the sound in those spots completely, or just stuck with some of the the imperfections in the audio effect I usually default to using, and I just made the wrong call by using another sound effects to try to make up for that. I can guarantee you I will not be using that particular sound effect, at least, ever again. It hurts my own ears, and I honestly don’t know why I thought it was the best way to do it, I think I was just mentally not on my game the day I was editing that day. Sorry for the novel, your comment really made me smile, and I wanted to not only reply to the first part, but also give you an explanation.
@debbie7648 Жыл бұрын
@@BeccaDoss Thank you for explaining the reason/s for cutting-out swear words and some problems you encountered achieving that. (I had a feeling that you were quite possibly unable to hear what we heard). I take my hat off to you (and other KZbinrs) for coping with a number of technical challenges entailed in the process of uploading a video. As you can see, by my use of the word 'skid' to describe the censoring noise, I'm fairly tech challenged. So, I have admiration for you juggling that plus editing and a plethora of other YT rules and regulations, which I would find quite daunting. In my first post, I meant to congratulate and encourage you in your other personal endeavours. I am an oldie - older than most people - with lived experience of more than most people's adversity, loss and grief. I have found that much of our sorrow from loss and grief is due to our unfulfilled expectations. So, I have hopes and dreams but few expectations of life. Therefore, I wish for you the following basics I have for myself: ○ to be your very own best friend ○ to believe and have faith in yourself to stay emotionally and spiritually strong ○ to be very kind to yourself and others, with a good sense of humour ○ to have inner peace, love and light. IMO, anything much else is pretty ineffable as there are often no words that suffice. You probably have all this and can, very likely, articulate even more. All the best from Debbie in Australia. ✌☮🕯💙 PS. No need to reply. 💕 As you have a humungous load of reaction vids on the horizen, I don't wanna cause any more overwhelm. Just want to empathize and overcome my hesitancy to share a tiny bit of my management techniques of systemic, progressive, physical chronic pain and limitations. This, along with processing then transcending the intended emotional devastation of my psyche. I've found that acceptance of reality is key. With gratitude for the remaining rubble, I've discovered some diamonds of light. Gee, my 4 word "No need to reply " grew into a novel, like yours... I really got on a roll. We can't be perfect all the time, hey ! 🙃 ✌☮🕯💙

Kasey created this arrangement herself. At the time of this performance she has been a touring as a musician for over thirty years. She has also released several albums over a 20+ year career

Another commentator said it best "Kasey has delivered it like the 3 part story it is. Background of dispair and anguish of being stuck in a rut... The ramp up of conviction to do something about it... And then the climax of the battle and victory against his plight. After seeing this you wonder how it could ever have been done differently."

This rendition of "Lose Yourself" was the final song of a two hour concert. Her Guitarist is her brother Nash and the guy on lap steel guitar is her Dad, "The Dead Ringer Band" is the name of her family band and are a long standing institution. Kasey is revered here in Australia and along with the band she has garnered much critical praise and respect. We've always thought that she should be an international superstar and so we hope that the attention she's got for this can provide some traction for her to further her international career.

Great reaction. Kasey is such a talent. She's got a dozen albums under her belt and has been voted into the Australian Hall of Fame. If you want to hear more of her, I'd suggest something from this list. Her expertise is in emoting, so I've listed next to each song that she covers in that song. The Captain - When it just all gets too much and you just want to rest in someone's shadow Not Pretty Enough - You've done all you can, but the people you want to impress just don't see you (came from the radio stations ignoring her while her records sales still soared) Aint No Little Girl - Mature woman's response to some of a male stuffing her around Nullarbor Song (Live) - (there are 2 similar songs, make sure it has the 'live' on the end) Homesick.

It's to be expected. It's pretty hard for Aussie artists to break into the European and North American markets. Any serious attempt is going to involve a lot of time away from friends and family and a lot of our top artists decide it's not worth it. There are a number of 'sample' videos out there of the top (insert any number you can think of) hits by Aussie bands. Kasey is a huge Eminem fan, and during Covid lockdown she reworked Eminem's rap song into her own song; such is the difference between the original and her version, that she was given permission to upload this performance to Spotify in it's own right. Such is the quality of her to put herself personally, not only in this song but all the songs she has written; every one has some reflection of her life, the trials and tribulations throughout her life and career.

I must admit I've listened to the original loads of times, but this is the first time I've really appreciated the lyrics! The way she performed her cover brought out so much more of the meaning of the song. This reminds me of the feeling I had when I listened to Disturbed's cover of the Simon & Garfunkel classic 'The Sound Of Silence' ... BRILLIANT!!! Hope you're feeling better after your recent low, Becca 😘

Hey Becca, you know what I heard the other day on a Ted talk and it got me SO WOUND UP? You know that everything on the planet carries a vibration, every emotion carries a vibration. Most people think that love is the highest vibration on the planet but there is something that carries a vibration 4000x higher than even love. Any guess? Ok, I will tell you. It is AUTHENTICITY!!! WHOOT!! I was TOTALLY REMINDED of that nugget when I watched YOU deliver this reaction. I just TOTALLY LOVE YOUR AUTHENTICITY!! My only concern is how many step equivalents in energy it takes to do one of these reactions. ;) Ha. Keep being your authentic self!
@BeccaDoss Жыл бұрын
Wow, what timing! It’s SUPER interesting to know authenticity is so strong on that scale-I’m not surprised, because I’ve gotten several comments with people saying some form of appreciation for my authenticity, but I don’t think I would have ever thought to look into it. I probably would’ve assumed love was the highest vibration, just like so many others. Thank you so much for sharing this. When I say it means more than I can say to hear you say you love my authenticity-I mean that, deeply. For a lot of my life, I took in the message that my true, authentic self was ‘too much,’ or ‘too sensitive,’ and therefore, had to be hidden, at least to a point. It will never stop making my heart smile knowing there have been people who are able to connect with me for who I am, without the mask.💕

As a person who is often not taken at face value in my own relationship, I can feel your pain. Oops, that slipped out. Ugh. Life hey? Well, I guess part of the reason the nugget of learning just how powerful authenticity is because I think that when you live in a sick body, I believe that getting honest and getting real can go a long way towards our well being. I thank God there are people as real, as honest, and as sensitive as you all packaged up with an amazing command of the human language and the capacity to articulate and express yourself so eloquently. There are two of Kasey's songs l especially think you will like, the first is Not Pretty Enough; this is a 2001 hit song she used as a commentary on the reluctance of mainstream radio stations towards not playing her music . The second is her 2016 extended play Ain't No Little Girl, a song she says 'wrote her' a few years before she released it; at the time she didn't feel strong enough personally or vocally to own it but eventually found through personal growth and after surgery to remove two nodules from her vocal cords the strength to record, she says this song answers the questions raised in Not Pretty Enough. Please enjoy this accomplished Australian country singer-songwriter.
