• Ren - The Tale of Jenn...
What a beautfully haunting trilogy. I definitely got emotional on this on and kept in pauses at the end that I normally would not, but just wanting to keep it real.
A huge shout out and thank you to all the amazing humans/RENegades! Not only to those who suggested this, but also just in general for all the love and support.

He put on his “minstrel’s mask”. It’s how a performer shields themselves from experiencing the full trauma of the story they’re about to tell. Ren said performing this take a toll on him.

I loved your review. REN will do that. I watched a short from him back in December of last year,he was in the hospital then. It was more like a desperate plea from a kid,I’m a 53 year old grandpa,so I checked him out. I found Hi REN……..been lost on this kid for over a year now. So follow the ren-brigade down the rabbit hole. He changed my life. I needed that message in his Hi REN video my entire life. This kid changed my life in 9 minutes…….That led me to his other videos which helped me snap a depression I was in. Whenever I’m down I go down the ren rabbit hole…..trust me!!!

PPlllzzzz stop any time you want, we (most of us) are here to see you ''react'' and get your feedback from those masterpiece, many of us already know pretty well those song, we are not here to listen to it, we are here to know what you think of it, what are your questions, taught, feeling,? we are here to share it with you 🙂 Sick Boi is a good follow up, then I suggest Chalk outline Live x Chinchila. No matter what you pick it will be defferent from what you just watch, just respect the order if their is number 1 or 2 or 4, he doesn't play with that loll Just for you, not to react to watch his Million sub video, you'll get a bit more of who this human is. He also gave few entreview to reactor that are pretty interesting, KnoxHill, Rossie React, Black Pegasus to name few. He is a cool but so brillant guy. Have a good evening and Happy Hollyday 🙂

Pause when you need to! ❤ I say that as a fellow ADD brain. Actually I find that it’s easier for me to pay attention to reactions when reactors pause instead of giving a long speech at the end 😅 But what a rollercoaster during Violet’s Tale. Going from your excitement over the changing reverb when he first walks out into the hallway to then getting quiet as the lyrics start to sink in… Ren is a modern day bard painting such vivid imagery with his storytelling that it pulls you in and forces you to keep watching - even when it gets physically uncomfortable. And he uses that ability to shed light on far too real issues in the world 😢

And please don’t be afraid to pause during the videos and definitely go back a bit when you do! One of the things that sets Ren apart is the rawness of his videos. In this age of auto tuned, highly managed images of music, it's the imperfections Ren leaves in that make it "real". I appreciate when a reactor leaves the "real" in their reaction. Ren made an impact on me with these, so I feel like we're sharing a moment when I see it impact someone else. Credit to Samuel Perry-Falvey, the videographer on these, "Hi Ren", and many more of Ren's videos. You actually get to see Sam in front of the camera in Ren's more uplifting song "Power". A lot of Ren's songs can leave you pretty torn up or angry at society. Don't forget to enjoy some of his happier stuff too. If you're doing his album title track "Sick Boi", for me it seems like he's saying that his experience with the medical/psychology system is a metaphor or reflection of the larger problems in society. I'm curious what others get from it.

Just subscribed, I'm enjoying your reactions. Someone from the UK commented on a previous reaction that for Violet to have gotten a flat at 16 meant that she was already pregnant. The "welfare scheme " would not have provided housing just to get her out of her parent's house. So, probably her dad was the father, not Stevie. Tragedy on top of tragedy. And I get angry every time he tells her that it's her fault, she's the one who makes him beat her up.
@InconSteveHable
@InconSteveHable 6 ай бұрын
(i'm from the UK) I don't believe her dad was the father, I "like" to think, that she had help from social services after coming out about her abusive father and her alcoholic mother and that is why she got help on a "welfare" scheme...... I think the one most convincing bit of evidence for my "like" is that Jenny and Screech would have become wards of Violets parents if the truth wasn't known, but instead I believe they went into the system foster/orphanage (why else would they have grown up separately not knowing each other unless the grand parents weren't able to take care of them).. I was homeless at 16 in the mid/late 80's, it took nearly 6 months for social services to find me a place in a shelter (I slept in a local park) for young people (under 18's) as a young male, young girls I met coming through the same system as I did were generally in the same shelter within a week of leaving home and rehoused within 4 weeks either shared housing or personal flats (apartments), I then joined the army at 17 before I even got a chance to be rehoused, girls always got the priority.
@lisavalentine8877
@lisavalentine8877 6 ай бұрын
@InconSteveHable I defer to your knowledge & experience. I was just repeating the opinion of someone who sounded like she knew. In any case, I think that whatever reason Violet was given housing would have disqualified her parents taking in the twins, if they'd even wanted to help, and Stevie is the one who beat her, so it didn't surprise me that they got placed separately. Also, she seemed unaware that she was having more than one baby, so, no pre-natal care.
@InconSteveHable
@InconSteveHable 6 ай бұрын
@@lisavalentine8877 I could be totally wrong lol (that was just my experience)... I just "like" the idea, that Violets Dad was in prison for what he did to her and that her mum was unfit to look after the kids because shes was an alcoholic.

FWIW, I’m not from the UK and was basing my assumptions about who qualifies for public housing on the American system, which is much less robust than the council house system in the UK. That might have biased by analysis On that, I defer to anyone local with personal experience, but I still stand behind my own interpretation of the pregnancy What’s so wonderful about great art is how many different ways it can be interpreted by different people. I see it through the lens of an American system where teenagers aren’t treated as adults by the system. They end up in foster homes because we privatize all social programs here, policy often functions as contracts for services awarded to the private sector for profit. We don’t have social housing in this country and so I projected that into another system that I knew was better but couldn’t imagine it being that much better. I can’t think of any one state here that would grant a teenage victim of domestic violence an actual house
@InconSteveHable
@InconSteveHable 6 ай бұрын
@@lunadyana3330 In the UK everyone qualify's for Council (social) housing depending on their personal need/requirement/circumstance... Although the system used can vary between County's (like individual states but without autonomy from the Government)... In the area I live when you apply for social housing, your circumstances give you points, the more points you have the higher up the ladder you go until you reach the top and get a house (thats a very simplified version of how it works though). Here you get points for - how long you have been waiting on the list, whether you are homeless, have children or dependants, any disabilities, age, sex, victim of criminal acts, the more points you have the more urgent your need for the next "suitable" available accommodation is recognised so you are more likely to be able to get housing quickly.. In actuality in my region, you take the points you have and can then "bid" on houses that are available in the areas you want to live, as a Working male with no dependant children my personal likelyhood of getting in a social house is extremely low (not impossible though) whereas a Young woman with at least 1 dependant child has a significantly higher possibility of getting a house that she "bid" on. The "bidding" process then sorts out all the "bids" into points hierarchy and the house/flat is offered in order of the person with the most points, highest first if they decline the house it's offered to the next inline and so on until the house is accepted, so if a Single male theoretically bid on every house in every area there is a chance that eventually he would be offered a social house/flat. Social housing in the UK is a huge deal, there are Council housing projects (run by the local government) and Housing Associations (not for profit charity's, I believe you would say they are "rent controlled"?). Charities bear the biggest burden for young people though, they are the ones who run hostels for the homeless and they are generally the ones that deal with young people aged 16-18 (under 16 you are a child and a ward of court so the government takes care of that, over 18 you are an adult and expected to be able to look after yourself), they have short stay (about 4 weeks) shared housing (like student accommodation in the US) they have mid stay (6 months upto about a year) accommodation (generally a single room with a on suite kitchen and shared bathroom toilet facilities), and long term accommodation (1 year+) which is generally a real house that you would have to share with a least 1 other person. The system isn't perfect and people do fall through the cracks like in everything run by Government or large organisation's, In the UK genuine efforts are made to recognise and help the individual succeed in life regardless of the circumstance you were born into or have to deal with as you grow up.

Ren explained in detail how he post produces the live vocals from the lapel mic, in an interview with Elizabeth from the 'Charismatic Voice'. He uses a lot of detailed manual volume automation to compensate for head movement left to right (towards/away from the mic) along with automated EQ to compensate for the EQ shift also. He also uses parametric EQ and some plug-ins to help the process. Ren said his projects look a right mess with all of the automation etc. He said his ADHD helps the process because it helps him focus on the details. It is crazy the quality he manages with just a lapel mic and the guitar DI'd via a zoom.

Firstly- pausing is encouraged by most Renegades. Secondly- You're allowed to feel gut punched. And not have words. He shines a light on dark subjects, in a way that it's unavoidable to not have feelings, unlike most news stories about similar events. You have to feel Jenny's intuition and terror, Screech's confusion and emotional dysregulation, Richard's lack of choice and trauma, and Violet? Fuck don't get me started. Stevie? The doctor? Everyone in this scenario has some trauma or mental health issues. Issues that likely could be helped with decent mental health services. Something Ren himself didn't really get from the system. The 360° VR illegal street concert of this on Ren's channel? He encourages us to put ourselves in Screech's shoes, that we're all just one or two decisions away from becoming the villain of the story. Worth watching, not to react to, just immerse yourself and there is extra context and content. The playlist of this on Ren's channel under releases has extra content, eg Richard's police radio communications. There's the lead up to one tale that almost got Ren's instagram account banned. Ren said his phone was stolen, and a pile of video stories started appearing with "Screech" filming from Ren's phone. Various interactions with his girlfriend and Patrick, various crimes, including accidentally violent crimes. Some Ren fans thought it was real, and reported each and every video. Sent abusive messages to Screech to return the phone, tried to track locations of videos and report to police. Ren got content warnings from instagram, was down to his final warning before banning, lost tonnes of followers, had to start a second channel as Screech and post video stories from there to follow through with his planned pre-release content, and it was high risk for him to lose so many fans and also lose his dedicated instagram page. Some of the surviving instagram video stories are preserved on Ren's KZbin channel. In a game thousands of us participated in for the lead up to Money Game Part 3 / Sick Boi album release there was other Tales content. For one of the daily puzzle solves we had to play a "choose your own adventure" in Stevie's shoes, from the moment after his last attack on Violet. All in filmed scenes on instagram stories. Ren's friends, Vik & Joe, filmed all the different possible scenes. They were visceral. I don't know how many scenes in total I only had time that day to try a few of the different methods, after my "successful" attempt. But I found myself in Stevie's shoes, seeing through his eyes, wanting to get him through it, despite also feeling it was good he was haunted by his demons. The only way to complete that part of the game was to save Stevie from dying at the end of the day. RikaShae and his wife managed to document each day of the game's puzzle solve (14 days) and do a video summary on their channel, so one play through of the film of Stevie making it out alive exists on KZbin. They definitely deserved their night out in Vegas with Ren and his friends...something I saw being asked about and organised on Discord in the group chat during The Money Game. Ren asking his friends, friends confirming, tickets being booked, and the get- together confirmed. RikaShae did livestream graffiti art piece of Ren. Based around The Money Game themes of Seven Sins, and then gave Harry Mack a brief synopsis of the game play, got him to free-style rap over a speed-up of the drawing process. Then sent to Ren, who recorded his reaction with Vik, to having someone he's a massive fan of do a freestyle rap about him and his fans. Stories bring us together, can make the world better, can make our own lives better. Ren has uplifting joyful music to, and happy music, and nostalgic, and angry, and frustrated, and empowered, and grief. Be prepared for all the emotions. For me this was one of the roughest. Another was Suicide, but I lost a friend in similar way in that same month in 2010, that Ren lost his friend. It was cleansing to process that unresolved grief, and the next week Ren gave some of the healing for that track, with For Joe, which is just beautiful and reframes the experience. For years "before Ren" I was suffering anhedonia & alexithymia. I couldn't get in touch with my emotions and couldn't experience positive emotions. I'd shut down, feel empty. I didn't even know how I felt, if I felt anything. Ren gave me my emotions back, discovering Hi Ren when I did was life changing. Yes, initially it was overwhelming and a bit scary. To feel hope again? Terrifying! To feel joy? Also terrifying, because I realised what I'd lost and could lose again. But it's been a year, and the feels are still there and I use them to drive action. And the best year. All the emotions and I'm actually living again. And the Renegades? Some of the most genuine, generous people across the world. First it was in youtube comments I was finding like- minded people, then finding people with my extremely rare diagnosis, and "statistically impossible" combination of rare diagnoses. I mean, that bizarre, in a KZbin comment thread about music. I may share one diagnosis and complications, in a reply about "I think I understand how you feel" then get reply "I have that too, and had same progression, but it's extra complicated by my other diagnoses" "wait I have those too? I was told I'm an anomaly, the only person with that combo. So I'm not alone in the world like all the doctors have told me?" It's almost magical, and statistically unlikely that I could find my diagnosis twin on a small music reaction channel with a few hundred subs, when even in dedicated reddits for my extremely rare diagnosis, I hadn't found anyone even vaguely near me with other diagnoses. Then Rencord is a new level of special...

Just some info.. Ren came up with the original tale of "Jenny" after reading an article in a news paper about the murder of a prostitute in London by a young lad, someone commented in the article "It's such a shame", which is why it is so prominent in the song. Violet died in 2005, the tale of "Jenny" was released in 2019, which is why Screech and Jenny are 14 years old n the song. Jenny was 14 years old and walking the streets of London in high heels indicating she was a "working" girl. Screech got his nickname from being "quick on his feet", "screech" being the sound trainers make as you dodge and run on an indoor training court. "The blade that could slice concrete" was actual a line in a tv advertisement in the 80's/90's IRC on late night shopping channels. When Screech tries to meet up with his girlfriend and she tells him she's busy, she was busy (cough cough) being with Patrick (Ren confirmed this) The tales are a generational story of abuse and the victims of abuse, Jenny much like her mother kept quiet and accepted her fate in silence and resignation, Screech was reactionary and quick to anger just like his father. What many people fail to understand is that Screech although the "obvious" bad guy in the tales, he was only 14, he had been brought up in foster care or an orphanage, he was obviously not being given the help/support/discipline he needed at that age in that situation, and from the moment he fatefully turned the corner and met Jenny face to face everything he did was fear, adrenaline fueled reactions to a situation that rapidly spiralled out of his control... Suffice to say, Screech was the bad guy, but he was also a victim as well, and I think that, that is the whole point of the story Ren tries to get across "It's such a shame".

Not to be a pest but it’s a pet peeve of mine, and an EXTREMELY COMMON error so please don’t take this personally but that’s not what reactionary means. The word you’re looking for is reactive. Reactionary is a political ideology, someone to the right of a conservative. Conservatism is concerned with protecting the status quo. It seeks to justify and reinforce the institutions maintaining current power structures. A reactionary rejects modernity completely and wants to reinstall the rigid hierarchies of an old order. If the opposite of conservative is liberal, the opposite of reactionary is revolutionary Many people currently use it to mean touchy or short fused but as you can see it meaning is pretty narrow Sorry again if I come off rude, you’re obviously intelligent and your analysis is spot on. I always confuse diffident and dissident so there’s that, I’m human too, just more steeped in political theory than most

I just found your channel and want to say that I'm super happy to see that you're getting the love you deserve. As many have pointed out, please, feel free to pause and/or rewind anytime you feel like you have something to say. We're here to see and hear your reaction; if we were here to listen to the song, I'd wager we'd be watching the video on Ren's channel ;) I, for one, love the fact that you kept in the pause in the end for example. Sure, you weren't talking, but even so, you conveyed a LOT to the audience in those few seconds of silence. Just some small technical hints btw, I'd recommend using your keyboard to pause/unpause/rewind/forward during reactions, just so you don't accidentally click on the progress bar or some other thing ;) You can accomplish this with the space bar for pause/unpause and the arrow keys to rewind/skip through the video. :) Now, excuse me while I go and watch some more of your videos :D

Ren wants his legacy to be as a storyteller, and as soneone who weaves threads connecting humanity and facing topics that are difficult to talk about. He speaks as the counter culture in a polarized,out of touch world. So counter culture involves unifying and honoring the humanity of all. He speaks for those who are isolated by illness or circumstance. These Tales are of the tradgedy of generational violence, partly inherited and partly fostered by environment. Jenny was like her mother Screech was like his father....probably Violets father. He has an interview with NME where he frankly talks about this. Spoiler alert, he alsi taljs abou his song S and Miney Game3 ,so you mught want to react to thise before watching the interview.

Ren has happy songs of any genre and he has sadder ones, all need to be seen, also check out his work with his old band called the big push, but he also does commentaries that need to be seen, his talent and compassion is phenonemal, after sick boi, if you want to see his solo work first, it would be great to see you do money game parts 1,2,3, to see his awareness on how he (and us) views problems in this world, but for money game part 2, watch the lyric video, as it is longer and more effecting, he also does brilliant collaborations with talented artists, chinchilla and sam tompkins just to name 2.

If you listen carefully, you will notice the similarities between the character of Violet and Jenny; on the other hand, those of Sevie and Screech. Circle of violence, masterfully narrated by Ren in a rude manner and with very few means, except for him and his friend Sam, the cameraman, who usually accompanies him almost always. Fantastic reaction. Thank you.
