One of the best performances of the work I have heard. I cannot think why I haven't come across it here before now. . Well done to all but an especial mention to Monika Jagerova, the alto. Stunning voice. . But all performers were excellent. Beautifully balanced between the light-heated verging on the jocular sections and the tender beautiful ones

Seven months earlier, on 20 September 2020, the same piece had been performed by the same choir, soloists and conductor at St Wenceslas Cathedral, Olomouc. In Part 3 of his monumental compilation of all the available recordings featuring Patricia, Frank Coshlea provides extracts from the Olomouc performance. You will find them here, beginning at 1:35:32: kzbin.info/www/bejne/robHoXSHp9GGn5o The atmosphere at Olomouc seems very different to that of the Brno performance - Patricia is clearly enjoying herself and choir is cheerful. I wonder what accounts for this difference? Both were performed during the restrictions in public life that existed in 2020 and 2021. Might a further six months of those restrictions have had an increasingly depressing effect on the performers, or was there some other cause?

A great joy I had was playing the piano part for my university choir’s performance of the Cum Sancto Spirito movement from this Mass last year. I had such a fun time and love this piece! It was actually my first substantial introduction to Rossini other than snippets from the operas as a kid.

Why piano ?
@pindapoy15964 ай бұрын
@elizabethharland-hazebroek7413 The original work was composed for piano and harmonium like presented here. Later a version with full orchestra appeared. Rossini was living in France at the time with a lady friend. When this work became known to the pope it was immediately opposed because women were not allowed to sing in Catholic religious ceremonies. Rossini was well established and had nothing to fear and went ahead. The premiere took place at a castle in France belonging to an admirer of the composer and Rossini picked a musical Jewish director just as an irony to the pope.

Great performance! Except for the lady in the center of the top row who 1. Didn’t have the sense to leave her sunglasses off-stage 2. Rested her head on her hands half the time 3.Was looking sideways or off-stage half the time 4. Was obviously totally disinterested in being there.
