Sang this as a kid in the Vatican for Pope Paul with the Harvard Glee Club as a member of the Newark Boys Chorus in 73 under the direction of Leonard Bernstein. Still brings tears to my eyes. We sang it with no music, I was 13yrs old then we had it all memorized along with 2 other scores

My hope is that I will continue to receive these gifts as I search the internet.

John Dudek I am planning a biopic called the Passion of J.S. Bach. I believe what you say is correct about his relationship to God. He was a very humble, emotionally sensitive and deeply spiritual man. While his contemporaries busied themselves with currying court favor and accumulating wealthy patrons and fancy high-profile appointments, Bach contented himself with grinding out a new contata every week, in a church in a relatively provincial section of Bavaria where his grueling schedule included duties as choirmaster to a generation of likely unruly and lively youngsters and producing 13 children with his one wife. I find this deeply moving.

The use of soloists in the sicut locutus section differs from other performances in which groups of the choir perform this section. Don't know what Bach himself meant, but this performance is superior to all others. The excellent bass that begins the sicut locutus and at the end joins the amazing soloist Christina, and at the end of the segment where everyone together ends up in "Abraham ..." really exciting.

English translation:My soul doth magnify the Lord. And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Savior. Because He hath regarded the humility of His slave: For behold from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. Because He that is mighty hath done great things to me; and holy is His name. And His mercy is from generation unto generations, to them that fear Him. He hath shewed might in His arm: He hath scattered the proud in the conceit of their heart. He hath put down the mighty from their seat, and hath exalted the humble. He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich He hath sent empty away. He hath received Israel His servant, being mindful of His mercy: As He spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his seed for ever. Glory be the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, forever and ever, Amen.
