So fascinating and elucidating, thank you both! This is the first Hermitix podcast I've tuned into - such high quality, I will certainly listen to more. I'm reading Greer's edition of The Doctrine and Ritual of High Magic by Levi (which is how I came across this podcast). To add to the debate in this thread about psychedelics: While I agree that the substance-free, meditative, ritualistic, dedicated magickal path yields the richest, most transformative, most far-reaching harvest when it comes to the Great Work, I have most definitely experienced - and, importantly, ALCHEMICALLY INTEGRATED - entheogenic epiphanies and illuminations that have been genuine lightning paths to enlightenment. For those who are strong, grounded, and reasonably safe-from-the-risk-of-addiction, the conscious use of occasional psychedelics can dramatically enhance our connections to the divine; all the more so when embedded in a routine of daily occult study and practice. On the other hand, when psychedelics are consumed excessively and addictively, or without the foundation of a substantial amount of inner work already under the belt, they can cause just as many problems, toxicity and ill-health as excessive alcohol or any other drug. I know of people who've had to be rehabilitated from ayahuasca, for its destructive effect on their lives. Psychedelics degrade into dangerous toxins, or sublimate into entheogens, depending on the soil into which they're planted. Far safer to first nurture and prepare the soil before planting.

24:10 "All these worlds are interconnect" I try to visualise the geometric form of this but I lack the imagination for higher dimensional objects. Would it be right to conceptualize as nested, a cross section, or a root value.

Well no, technically. There is literally no way for you to correctly imagine such a thing. Such things are forever beyond you. Any idea you come up with is just a fabrication, another human symbol.

I do disagree with Greer about McKenna however. I think he overlooks the fact that shamanism is directly responsible with all mystic disciplines. And shamans throughout the world have taken psychedelics in their practices. I will however agree that the mental discipline to get to the same place is of much more value in the end.

Well no Eleusinian Mysteries for you two. And I'm guessing the shamanic experiences of indigenous peoples wouldn't rank very high in your mystic hierarchy. Weighing the vaule of mystics against each other is about as useful as weighing goose feathers.

Do you feel slighted or something? They didn’t mention the eleusis school (as if this video was about mystery schools) and spoke pejoratively of psychedelics? We all have highly differing specialized interests, it’s not a big deal if someone disagrees. Let alone damn John Michael Greer come on mate.

Greer is a clown and misses the point of the men he so dearly studies and quotes.

I love Greer but I have to challenge his view on using drugs to achieve a mental state of genius. There are many designers, scientists, artists, musicians even athletes who claim the inspiration for their works of genius came from a psychedelic experience.

On the top of my head: Freud, C. S. Peirce, PKD, Huxley, Derrida, Foucault... perhaps the entire catalog of that tradition, certainly most mystery societies dabbled in mind altering substance one form or another
