As always it is so exciting to see the beautiful pieces of art that you show, and hear about the meanings (in this case possible meanings) behind them. Thank you!

Great assessment of the painting. In taking attempt at the subject I'd be tempted to say the man in the cloak at the right is Aristotle, the man in the middle is Avicenna, and the man on the left is the hypothetical natural philosopher looking to the heavens (the deep dark black beyond the scene). I'd be tempted to say a Sir Isaac Newton but he wasn't born yet. Still, this painting may show the progressive and inquisitive nature of mankind. History and tradition can say all it wants. We are still entitled to investigate for ourselves.

I can't help thinking that these are simply the three magi on their journey to Bethlehem.

Well, why would they draw things in their way? i think of them more as philosophers. perhaps the man with the turban is Averroes

This is hella deep. I wanted to roast the younger generation looking into the darkness today, but it's honestly a sad thing. Grateful to grow up in the 90's. Like nokomarie, I couldn't shake the magi.
